Default So You're Really THAT Bored? Ultrasonic Ringtones

I can't hear anything above 10kHz. My husband can hear up to 14.9. My 8.5 year old and 11 year old both could hear up to 16.7kHz.

I find it extremely odd that my family can hear so many more noises than I can, lol.

So tell me, why can't we hear certain frequencies when we get older?

Daskid, I'm sure it's just like our vision. Our vision goes (most of us will need reading glasses later in life) and so does our hearing.

acutually its not "hearing" so much as hair loss. our eardrums cannot pick up this noise on their own, but the individual hairs that lie within our ears vibrate to the frequency and work as ear drums, allowing us to hear the note. as we age, we lose the hair and thus our ability to hear said notes. learned that little tidbit in physics! there ya go have fun with that one!

and i thought for all this time it was if we listen to loud music (high SPLs) that could hinder our ability to hear, cutting down the freqs we can hear.

I can still get the 21.1. I'm trained in sound engineering, so I try to maintain my hearing...

Wear earplugs at shows if you still want to hear high frequencies in your twenties... who cares if you look like a tool?
