Default Stop Not Gasoline

Today was a horrible day. Waking up knowing that your loved one is in pain not only hurts them, but you as well. My girlfriend has been feeling "heart clenches." I had a chemistry 101 test that I studied so hard for, but when I actually took it I choked. Most of the questions were pure gibberish to me, and took me until the end of class to finish. After I was done my girlfriend was waiting for me outside and we had to rush to her doctor's appointment. Let me tell you guys something. Living in Las Vegas and going to school at the University of Nevada Las Vegas is horrible, especially if you have to get across town for a doctors appointment within 30 minutes at rush hour.

To get back on topic and ending my rant, I went to the gas station afterwards. It was a "cheap" gas station, like arco, ampm, terribles gas, sinclair, and etc. Unlike others, this was the "cheapest." Around town gas has risen to 3.40 and this gas station's was a mere 3.21!!! So I jumped at the chance, saying to myself "Hey, it's worth a try" So I went inside gave the guy 15 and headed back outside to pump. When I took the hose out and put it inside the gas lid I turned around and glared at the 3.21 button. On top of it said STOP NOT GASOLINE E-85 Minimum 70% Ethanol. I was furious, I had no idea what this meant, and didn't want to test it in my car. Instead I had to go with the 3.49 cent unleaded regular gas. Which is 10 cents more than Shell!

Gah, sorry for my rant. It's just been a horrible day for me.

My question is does anyone know what this type of gasoline is? Or if it's even usable in our cars (Scion tC) Thanks

You can run ethanol without any issues, but it won't be as efficient as gasoline. You won't make as much power and it needs more fuel than 87 octane. So if you were to pay 3.21 for the Ethanol, you'd only end up getting 17mpg vs 26 with 87 octane.

According the owner's manual, your vehicle is not manufactured to use E85 (ethanol fuel). Your vehicle was manufactured to run on fuel with an octane rating of no lower than 87 with an ethanol content of no higher than 10%- using E85 can be damaging to your engine and cause corrosion and is not recommended.
