Find a wide open parking lot on a very gradual slope. Point the car uphill and let the person try. Thats how I learned. Finding the sweet-spot while the car is rolling backwards ever-so-slightly is very effective. Stay with me now. When you're on a flat surface the car just starts moving forward. However when it's slowly rolling backwards and you start to feel a connection the backwards motion slows, then stops, then you start moving forward. Three results instead of one. I learned in about 20 minutes this way after trying for over an hour on a flat surface the day before.

actually i also remember my friend learning from his dad who made him do clutch exercises in first gear, which i think was the toughest part and after that its a breeze. Make her engage the car in first gear 10 times without stalling. If she can get that then the rest should be easier

When I taught my sister I taught her on my old escort, so it wasn't that much of a big deal if she messed it up (even though my dad had just replaced the transmission).

I made her stall the car a few times so she would know what it felt like when that was going to happen and then just basically told her how to prevent it. As for shifting through the gears, I just told her when to shift.

I taught myself how to drive sitck, so I really didn't know what else there was to do, but she drives pretty well now so I think it worked out alright. She drives the same car I taught her on, too, and it doesn't seem to be having any transmission problems. There's other things wrong with it, but it's not her fault - that car's been through BEATINGS with me, and it's 12 years old.

when i taught my wife who to drive stick i took her in to philly got in a traffic jam switched seats and made her drive scared the sh!@ out of her but she learned really quick got tired of going to parking lots
