landlines are still available and probably like $15/year. i just think its complete BS that the $ taken from my paychecks ( almost 6K in fed taxes alone) to pay for others to sit on their butt all day long. you think government will pay for me to turbo my car?

Kind of reminds me something that one of my brother's ex-crushes said four years ago....
I dropped out of college due to lack of financial aid. I was going to study Education. Speciality in Special Ed. Number one teaching position needed in the nation.
While this "ex crush" had unprotected sex and got pregnant when she was in her mid-teens. She admitted out loud "Its quite funny, how your sister worked her a$$ off to get into college and agree to go into Education. While someone like me has a kid in high school and few years later I get my Northwestern University education already paid for..." For those not from Illinois: Northwestern tuition is almost 35k a year!

yep; i had a girl i went to college with that got knocked up and now government pays for her to finish up as well as almost everything else; if only i could stop paying my taxes; that'd be about 6000 a year less for lazy people to use for sitting on their butt

We're already there. The IRS showed that in 2007 (the last year complete data has been tallied) the bottom 50% of tax returns with a positive adjusted gross income contributed a whopping 2.89% of the federal income tax dollars, while the top 50% contributed 97.11%. Of that figure, fully 40.42% was paid by the top 1% of wage earners, 60.63% if you expand to include the top 5% of wage earners, and 71.22% was paid if you expand to include the top 10% of wage earners with a positive adjusted gross income.
The current administration feels that the "wealthy" do not pay their fair share. I would submit that if:
the top 1% contribute more than 40% of the gov't income,
the top 5% contribute more than 60% of the gov't income,
the top 10% contribute more than 71% of the gov't income,
then they are paying their fair share.
As a nation, we have already reached a level of entitlement where virtually half of the country gets something for nothing. Why would I ever want to work harder and be a more productive member of society, to generate more income for myself, when the gov't is just going to take it away and give it to somebody who isn't working?

Hix, that makes you a true conservative. Republicans ran the deficit up for 8 years and now complain because the Democrats are doing the same thing, only on social services instead of defense. That's all I'll say about politics less this thread gets locked up. That, and term / age limits for congresscritters please! 90% incumbancy rate for those running for re-election is not democracy.
Everyone hates taxes, but we can't pick and choose where every one of our dollars goes or a lot of vital, though not popular, programs would not get funding (FDA, EPA, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, FCC, etc., well maybe I wouldn't mind seeing the FCC go). Congress already does special allocation to some extent, it's called earmarks, and it ends up with nothing but fraud, waste and abuse. For those argueing that the top 10% pay 90% of the taxes (numbers made up, but you get the point), what percentage of their income is that? I pay almost 40% of my income in taxes. If the super-wealthy are writing things off, using tax shelters, or just not giving a crap and doing evasion, they may be paying far more than me in taxes, but $1 million in taxes when your income is 100 million is only 1%, hardly seems fair to me.
Still, this cell phone thing seems like BS, I agree that every place should still have a land line available (is it in the building codes?). Pay phones are not a good alternative, when's the last time you actually saw one. Some form of subsidized communication i wouldn't have a problem with, it could be restricted to only dial emergency services.

Not entirely because of what was stated, but because he broke the no long posts rule to this thread. It was entirely unamerican. lol

It's also the fact that costs continually rise as wages stay steady, wages don't adjust to accomodate rising costs which means more and more things are unaffordable to the average American without the help of a loan. If this trend drastically continues, we'll all be needing loans to go grocery shopping.
