I don't know yet. I probably won't get a pinpoint location until I get to Ft. Hood. Right now all they are saying is Baghdad which is also subject to change. In '03 I was in the "Green Zone" which was pretty chaotic at the time.

Will, you going to Anaconda?
Thank you everyone for your hints and answers

Nick well there is only one way to find out is to actually wait and see.

That's weird. In the Air Force it's not even possible to start at E-4. You could only start at E-3 and you have to sign up for 6 years to do that.

I thought the same thing. I guess the Army is getting pretty desperate.

Kinda sucks tho, because it is completely demoralizing the rank structure of the Army.
Its happening in the Airforce to an extent as well. When I joined, an E4 had some leadership rolls and an E5 lead pretty much everything. Now adays with promotions up, you dont really get in charger till you are E6.

I deployed with the Army last year and E2-E5 were pretty much the same thing. Considering some E5s had only been in 3 years or whatever, how much do they really know about the roll an E5 should be playing? Its nothing but a pay raise now adays, and it kinda sucks!!!
Glad I made E6 so I can finally get into it.

Oh yeah, to the OP. I spent 5 months in Missouri at Ft Leanord Wood. We called it Lost in The Woods. Check out Big Louies!!!!

the reason why i'm staring as E-4 is this...

1) I have about 90 college credits all together.
2) I have Civilian Aquired Skill, so i go under ACAS program, and that skill is being one of Defensive Languages ( Russian ) i speak it fluently, i am able to write, read, understand and everything what comes with it.

I've never heard of a military branch that cares about that. If you have a degree, you'd go in as an officer. If you don't, you're enlisted. It's black and white. You start at either E-1 or E-2 depending on whether you signed up for 4 years or 6. If you signed up for 6 years, you get E-3 after completing either basic training or tech school. I forget which. That's how it is in the Air Force. No offense to you, but I think it would be really stupid on the part of the Army to put you into E-5 so early. If they did that in the Air Force it would be stupid and the Air Force would suffer at the flight and unit level.

I just thought of something that matters. Did you join the Army Reserve or National Guard? I think they do promotions a little differently.

I just found this on Army promotions. I think your recruiter is lying to you. TIS = Time In Service (time spent in the military) and TIG = Time In Grade (rank)
Decentralized Promotions means that the unit (company) is the promotion authority. By theory, the commander decides who gets promoted and who doesn't. In actuality, because there are no quotas for promotion for E-2s through E-4s, commanders pretty much promote everyone (as long as they do their job okay and don't get into trouble) who meet the "promotion criteria." The "promotion criteria" is set by the Army to ensure that the "promotion flow" remains stable, and everyone (regardless of MOS) can expect to be promoted at the same (approximate) time-frame.

For soldiers in MOS 19D, and 19K IET, commanders may promote up to 10 percent of each 19D and 19K class upon completion of basic combat training (BCT) portion of one station unit training (OSUT) to PV2 and an equal number to PFC upon graduation from the MOS producing course.

Finally, if the unit is undermanned in specific grades, the Army may allow the unit commander to waiver TIG and TIS requirements. When specifically authorized, the commander can waiver up to 2 months TIG for promotions to E-2, 6 months TIS/2 months TIG for promotions to E-3, and 6 months TIS/3 months TIG for promotion to E-4.

The promotion criteria for promotion to the ranks of E-2 to E-4 are:

Private (E-2) - Six months time-in-grade (TIG) as a private (E-1).
Private First Class (E-3) - Four months TIG as a Private (E-2) and 12 months time-in-service (TIS).
Specialist/Corporal (E-4) - 6 months TIG with 24 months TIS.

And 1 more thing.
Next tuesday i will go for 2nd Security interview .. why do i need it if i just passed one like this week ?
i'm getting little confused here by this security clearance stuff, i know my job requires TOP SECRET clearance but 2 interview in the span of 1.5 weeks..

and i read online that for the first week on BCT its basically orientation and they also going to be doing security interviews ? does that mean some people get kicked out or something ?
also, do they 100% will pull my wisdom teeth out ?

Well i guess what they do care about it Defensive Langugae knowledge and especially that they dont have to teach me that language, i dont know man, to be honestly i think there is only 1 way to find out is wait and see. And as far as my recruiter said, E-5 will be given only if they everything is excellent and i wont do anythign stupid.. i dont know how its going to go in reality but so far whats hes been telling me was the truth. I doubt him myself , and basically researched everything, even a FREACKING councelor at MEPS trying to fricking give me a contract i did NOT want, he was trying to tell me that for my MOS its 5 years and "certain amount " of bonus, i told him , no that is not true and my recruiter told me exactly what i will get , and magically after a phone call i got exactly what my recruiter told me.

and no i am not National Guard and not reserve, i am active duty.

If you have college credits you can join the army as an E4. That is no lie. Since he speaks fluent russian he can test out of the language class. Getting the e5 when he graduates is probably complete BS though. They will not 100% pull your wisdom teeth out and the first week of basic training is called zero week, it doesn't count at all and you will be doing a lot of paper work and you will be getting used to being in that kind of environment. Since you are getting TS security clearance you will have a few interviews, its normal. Also LSA anaconda is a resort in Iraq.

You will have plenty of interviews for that clearance... trust me. After they complete your interview they will talk to the people that you listed and then they will come back and interview you again. You will also have to go through the whole process every five years to update it. It becomes a huge PITA.

i can imagine , its was a PITA filling evrything out, because all in total you have to list like 15-20 ppl that knew/know you while you were in college, places you lived, where you live now .. its crazy ...

The time it takes to get also depends heavily on foreign travel/foreign family members, etc.

I always thought that the Army and Marines were filled with idiots but now I have proof lol. Seriously, that's dumb. At that level, he will be expected to know more things than he will.

I don't understand what the big deal is about the Army letting people come in as E4's. As an E4 you are not expected to lead anybody you are just expected to do your job. If he is already proficient in his job than why not let him come in as an E4?
