I think you may be mishearing the shift. It should be in 3rd or even 4th at 70 mph.

Yea, I doubt that to be true... get someone in a stick tC to try it, that way you'll know if you're really in 2nd.

there is no way that i am mistaken about this...i can see the RPM range when they drop every time the car shifts gears...the automatic tranny in the tC is an Electronlically Controlled Transmission (ECT) and at higher RPMs it does not upshift untill redline when at full throttle......i can see (techometor) and feel when my car shifts gear...from a dead stop, i pressed the throttle all the way down n took my car to 6K RPMs in first gear (while the car is in D) and then took 2nd gear to 6K RPMs ...by this time the car hits the 70 MPH on the speedometer....this was done to test the acceleration of my car...i just wanted to know if any other automatic tC owners experienced this when accelerating full throttle

You do know the car almost never redlines in first to second right? Especially if you just hit the gas all the way down. I've never redlined it that way. I have to slowly push the peddle down at first and then punch it to redline. First to second gear kicks in at like 15 mph. Second to third at like 40-45 mph if not sooner.

when the car is in d, does it actually start in the lowest gear, or does it start in second, and if you push the pedal to the metal, it goes to first, then second?

maybe it is starting in second, then third, and third is staying until 70 mph, because in a manual scion, 3rd gear can go up to 77 mph, and then your car goes into overdrive?

i never said that i relined it...it automatically shift after 6K RPMs bc of the nature of the ECT.....also as far as im concerned the car does start in first ...why would an auto start in second gear?.....anyway i guess i might just have to post of video of my car doing this...i will try to post it up soon....in the mean time...can somone tell me how i can post videos on this forum....im not too great with computers

Ok, let me tell you guys the facts-

The car starts in 2nd.

Secondly, this is taken from the Owner's Manual-

Maximum MPH that 2nd gear can run in is 50mph.
3rd gear maxes out at 77.
Not quite enough to max your tranny out yet...
