Please keep the students and families in your prayers. It is still extremely hectic, tense, and somber in Blacksburg right now.

Thank God I am doing a Co-Op in Maryland right now so I'm not at campus, because I have math classes in that building.

But like I said. Keep the students in your prayers.

That's not funny considering how serious it was, and I understand you tryiing to bring humor to lightening the mood, but WOW.

I found out when I came to work today and read that Delta is flying the families of the students hurt or killed out to VA TECH for free. Its a sad day when we have to worry about whats going to happen while in school today!

you're kidding right? Some marketing/business guy said "we should offer the family's free airfare. It'll be a great PR move, and is a way to get the delta name out to more people."

have you worked for a marketing company before?? probably not. they're sick like that.

remember all those company's making "i support the troops" bracelets, bumper stickers, american flags, etc... right after we started the war?

How about all the pope-john paul merchandise right after he died? Think there are company's that don't have this new pope's image ready for merchandise? It's like all the Seattle Seahawk Super bowl champion tshirts I have.

company's capitalise on sick crap like that. just like delta is doing.

Whatever, if you had to fly to Blacksburg today or tomorrow to pick up your dead kid or hug your baby live in the flesh in the hospital, you wouldn't care why they were doing it, but you'd take advantage none-the-less. Or would you rather pay the $1300 last minute fair?

It's a great thing they are doing, for whatever reason.

I heard about it right before me and a group of kids from one of my classes was going up to present our final.

It's horrifying. I just got home, and watching the news reports makes my head hurt.

Why can't you just be cool, Seattledave. You don't have to pick fights in every thread.

Any info on what the gunman's motivation was? He wasn't carrying any ID on him? Just walked into a classroom, chained the doors, and started shooting? Jeez. Anybody reporting if he actually said anything?

As I said earlier, when I first heard the news this afternoon, I was shocked, horrified, and saddened that such a thing happened.

My initial reactions still hold true, except after hearing more reports about the shooting, I am absolutely disgusted with the way the situation was handled by Virginia Tech safety officials (whether it be the school administrators, police officers, whoever). Someone was SHOT AND KILLED at 7AM in the dormitories and they didn't have the sense to cancel classes or warn students? The majority of kids still went to class, not even knowing what happened! Email bulletins and emergency messages weren't even dispatched until the second round of shootings after 30 people were killed in the second round of shooting.

The police and school officials said that they let students continue to class because they believed it was an isolated incident (since the shooter just killed his girlfriend), their excuse for not warning people being that thousands of students living off campus were already in transit on their way to school.

Personally, I think this is absolute horse ____. They should have closed down the school, turned people trying to enter campus away at the parking lot entrances, and barred people from going into classrooms and they KNOW IT, they are just trying to cover their asses. The irresponsibility displayed by these people who are supposed to keep their students safe just makes me absolutely furious.
