w2's never arrived/ what ya think
I worked at two electrical companies and was layed off by both of them. Been sitting here waiting on w2's to come in the mail and they never did so i gave them a call. One of them is an administaff cliant so they dont deal with the w2's personaly they just have administaff deal with that stuff. I contacted administaff to ask why and they couldnt tell me but im sure they had a different address cause i moved after i was layed off from the first company. No big deal there really cause they hooked me up with a copy online so i cant complain about that. Well I contacted the second company i worked for and they do all their w2 forms themselves. I asked them why i havnt gotten mine and their reply was that they dont mail them just incase the address's are wrong. They said i could go and pick them up which thank god i havnt moved to a different state like i had planed to do, so i can drop by and pick it up.
Just wondering what you guys thought about it. I know what the law states but just wondering what you guys would do and say to them if it was you.

that is whack. both companies i've worked for have always mailed my w-2's promptly, and that included walt disney world, who mailed my w-2 to maryland when i finished working for them. imagine driving 16 hours one way just to get my stinking w-2, or paying for air fare.
at my current job, i live 15 mins from work, and 30 min from their corporate office, and they still mail it right to my house every year. so your previous job should either mail it to you, or fax it to you, it really shouldn't be such a hard thing to do as it is pretty much a standard operating procedure.

I was pretty sure they had to be mailed - by the end of January. Haven't looked into the exact law but thought it was something like that. Haven't ever heard of someone NOT mailing them - mostly b/c I thought they were required to.

This... You can call the IRS and let them know your w2 was not mailed and they will come down pretty hard on the company that did not mail it. Put it this way; I live in the same house as the person who handles payment to contractors for one job I had and he still mailed the letter... TO HIS OWN HOUSE! It's the law they are not above the law.

i always got my w2 in the mail.
They should be able to mail you a copy of w2 if you did not get one.
i am sure they could mail or fax it to people that move too far. Maybe they need some ID fax to them.

I work for the federal government so I'm pretty sure they know the W2 policy. I actually don't get mine mailed, we have an online site where we can view our pay stubs each period and there's an option to either have the W2 sent by mail or download-only as a PDF.
Wouldn't the W2 be under federal law and not state? Anyway, sounds like BS from the company. Any chance they weren't recording you as an employee and paying under the table?
