Don't think so. Scion is in the small car market. The Smart will only take away sales from sub-compacts like the Yaris or the Fit. It's really going to create a niche which doesn't currently exist in the American market. In Europe and Asia, there is a "city car" class which comes below sub-compact. I really don't think Smart is compatible with America - definitely not in our area anyway, but maybe in an urban environment like NYC.

^^^LOL!!!

I'd get rid of my box for an IQ in a heartbeat.

Look at that little toyota emblem nose, & then the mirrors look like little ears, & the headlights look like little angry eyes....eyebrows & all. & the grill makes it look like he's angry,

I think the IQ wants to beatdown the smart car. He's got it written all over his little face.

I put $20 on the IQ.

I've never seen the IQ, but it does look sweet.

I've been toying with the idea of trading my tC for a Smart....but only if they bring the Smart Roadster to the States.

I wouldn't even consider getting the Smart Roadster, nevermind the City Coupe. The Roadster has the ultimate "girl car" reputation. I would only consider the Smart Roadster if they brought they V6 twin-turbo Brabus edition to the US.

those things cost a LOT. Well at least in Europe they do, usually here cars in genral are 30% cheaper. But it won't compete against ascion.....totally different group

I think the Smart is really only for making a statement. Small Micro-compacts and some hybrids get similar mileage, and can carry more than two people. The smart is also relatively slow compared to current hybrids and micro-compacts. The Smart is a good car, but for the money, a Yaris would be a better choice.

Some numbers:

EPA mileage: Yaris 29/36 (manual), Smart 33/41 (Sequential MT)

0-60: Yaris 8.8 sec, Smart 12.8 sec

Base price: Yaris, $11,350, Smart, $11,590

There is more to it than that, but I don't feel like typing.

I will sum up by saying that a conventional car can accomplish the same tasks better. However, If you want looks from people, the Smart will provide them.

Info from manufacturer websites and MSN autos.

yeah, seriously, smart cars and scions are not in the same market.

smart cars are literally about being the most minimal economical form of personal transportation. literally just for you and one other person in a crowded urban environment. for people who want the gas mileage of a vespa with the creature comforts of a car. like shelter from cold, rain, wind, and audio features. smart cars are totally useless beyond being an economical daily driver.

scions are about being economical cars ready for personalization. they are nice looking, can carry 5 people, have something call interior cargo space.

i mean seriously, how would i do deliveries for catering partys with smart car? how would i move myself to and from college.

so no, smart cars aren't going to be a threat to scion.

Smart Cars cost twice what I'd expect them to go for, gets about the same gas mileage as some small cars, is slower than a flat rock on a plateau, and seem generally unsafe.

I know they say they test well in accidents, but really... look at the darned thing. Don't let science blind you. Most cars would obliterate that thing.

And they might be city cars, but as a Brooklyn bred kid... I don't see these things selling too well in da hood.
