Whatever happened to Toyota MR2?
I forgot this existed until a few weeks ago i started seeing/noticing a bunch of them, but the Toyota MR2 is the coolest car ever made by Toyota IMHO so what ever became of this thing? anybody know?

first they stopped production of the mr2 then the celica and now the solara, so toyota has no more convertibles.... maybe the scion will eventually have one.. it was a sad day when i didn't see the Mr2 in the production/allocations when i worked for toyota.

personally they should revive the MR2 as the "premium coupe" under the scion banner, its a 1.8 four cyl but its RWD if they dropped a better engine in and gave it the "Scion Interior Touch" that would be a cool $20k+ car.
EDIT: so to sum it up, Toyota threw out yet another great car... :'(
i'm starting to think toyota is becoming pontiac, make a few Badass cars and then cancel them after a couple years.

The older MR2s and the newer ones are both really sweet. It is too bad that toyota discontinued them. Actually, when I think about it, if it was still around, I would probably get one for my next car. Damn you toyota....

that would be awesome, if only i had a manual car :'( then i'd try to get a RWD or AWD conversion (Chassis already available for AWD though) but since mine isnt manual there is no sense in investing in that.

here is what happend, toyota made the mr2 really really ___ looking and VERY overpriced compared to its rival at the time, which was the mazda miata, and the honda s2000. why do you say? well, they gave it the freaking toyota corolla engine. not the celica gts engine with lift and 180 bhp, but the lame one with 140 bhp. also, they made it a convertible only car, which automatically narrows down potential buyer, because some people, like me, have absolutely no desire for a soft top convertible. the last factor is that it is essentially useless if you can only afford to have one car. it isn't a hard car to drive, but it has the tiniest capacity for carrying anything on board, so only people who could afford to have a second car or never needed to carry anything bigger then a backpack.
the 1st and 2nd gen mr2's are nice, i would love to find one in good shape to buy and autocross or mess around with, especially the super or turbocharged versions, but that last generation, no.
so in summation, the reason why the mr2 died is because the last generation was weak, ___ and useless for everyday life, and overpriced.
