Why do people debadge their rides?
Everyones so happy and proud and defensive about their tC, xB's, and even the xA's...but yet everyone always debadges it?
Why? Did someone tell you it was uncool to show what kinda car it is, although everyone knows? Maybe it makes it faster?
Seriously though...whats with this pointless mod?

From what I see, the whole debadging thing is a trend and everyone is following. I think its lame, it makes the car look generic.
And seriously, people are stealing the badges? Hot item on e-bay or something?

I too debadged my tC....i have rear brake light overlays (red) and bondoed my badge area up and painted it black....plus the back has no key hole so it looks super clean.
So don't say its a pointless mod...I think it looks way better like that...and it's my car and I can do whatever I want!

I think debadging started as a part of the street race 'scene'; i.e. believing the cops won't be able to identify your car as easily if it's not badged correctly. That, and kids building sleepers didn't want to advertise a larger engine size, or those who heavily modified their car no longer felt the factory badging described accurately what was under the hood
Then someone saw it, thought it looked 'clean,' and did it to their car.
I personally think it looks allright, but only on cars where badge removal isn't obvious. If you take the Scion logo off your tC, without shaving the indent, it would look like someone stole your badge.

I debadged mine not by choice, i came out of work one day and saw someone wanted the tC badge more then I did I guess, it was mess up, who ever did it can ------- fill in the blank,
but I think the less clutter and more simple the better, one day I was going to take it of but I wanted to do it, at least they didn't scratch the paint.

I think you hit it right on the head. I want my car to look as least like a Scion as possible and debaging helps. I made my car to fit my personality and want it unique. As for the street race scene,
I also debaged because people would call me in for speeding and w/o a badge and my mods, they wont be able to call me in except try and describe my car.

okay..
First of all, okay...lol
I debadged mine for the clean look, and i believe many did it for the same purpose. I believe the bulky Scion emblems look horrible, and I didn't care for the xB emblem either.
The way you wrote your post, it sounds like your mad at the fact people do it. To each their own, its not your car so don't worry about it. (not trying to start an argument.)
On a side note, people have done it for years. Especially with trucks, debadging and shaving door handles, it just cleans the car up. Although I wouldn't shave my door handles, some like it.

I've debadged almost every car I've owned. Mostly mini-trucks. It looks cleaner, not generic. Generic is having 10 S-10's sitting in a parking lot ALL with their little bulky S-10 on the doors and Chevrolet vinyl across the back.
If it's possible to make it look cleaner (IN MY OPINION), then I will do it.
