Perhaps my original post wasn't ripe enough with sarcasm..

-------
It's snowed in Louisiana every year over the past 3 years, and it has NEVER snowed before that (to my knowledge). Combine that with the objective coldest winters on record worldwide, then the whole "warming" / "trendy-scare tactic" / "church of fear" stuff looks shakier and shakier.

But that's another story.
-----

Stay safe. Most of us buy tires that are NOT snow-worthy.
I'm not sure you understand how global warming works... The warming of the oceans is causing significant climate changes throughout the world. "global warming" doesn't mean it's getting hotter...

This planet's climate is dependent upon the ocean (temperature, current, water level, etc) When these change due to temperature increase of the water, sea level rising due to ice melt, it throws off the global currents which, in turn cause nasty storms to become worse.

You've had some bad hurricanes out that way... that's resultant of ocean warming.
For the midwest, the great lakes are getting warmer. As the difference between water temperature and air temperature increase, the potential for snow increases. Same goes for everywhere else. It's the precipitation cycle.

It's not a scare tactic. Lemme guess, you probably thought Obama made it snow, right?

with the rain we had yesterday i hydroplaned over a puddle on the south bound 15 freeway. lost control in a split second doing 50mph. no way i could have seen the water, but i counter steered as much as i could and kept my car away from any walls...

thank god i didnt hit anything, or anyone hit me even though i stopped, facing the wrong way on the freeway

I understand the concept of global warming, probably to a greater degree than most. I graduated with a degree in Biology, and did environmental research for 2 years before getting into medical school. I've got about 5 years of primary research experience in environmental work in total, and have a few publications associated with that work.

However, I find it silly to apply every single change in weather patterns to the man-made production of one of the weakest greenhouse gasses. While I believe we shouldn't simply "rape and pillage" what God has given us, I don't believe that human beings could affect the Earth in such a drastic and measurable way in simply the last 50 years.

In the 70's, it was thought we were headed towards another ice age. In the 2000's, a massive political movement was based on the Earth "heating up", although no scientific consensus and standardization protocols for measuring said temperature has been reached.

Earth getting hotter? Global warming.
Earth getting colder? Global warming.
Snowing in Las Vegas? Global warming DISASTER.
Hurricanes? Global Warming.
Ice caps melting ? Global Warming.
Ice caps growing faster than ever (last winter)? -- Global Warming.

It has become a religion. Therefore, I will make fun of said religion, by attributing everything to global warming. Though I do not believe in screwing up the place I was blessed with, I shall not pray at the Temple of Al Gore.

What I posted to be a joke, has turned into a debate.

I got the joke... I was going with it in a less discrete way, haha

IMO theres no debate about it, it's based on ones own bias. I'll opt for your post, I don't think anyone on this forum can top your education on the matter.

Global warming =/= Y2K

It's all good... thing is, I'm not specifically a global warming expert, but I can read the primary data, and make a educated decision for myself.

PubMed is your friend, though it's a PITA to use.

The problem with the GW issue, is that there's just as solid evidence on both sides of the controversy. Graphs, and graphs galore.

It's interesting to note the political implications of being a skeptic... My lab had a lot of trouble getting funding after being co-authors on a "non-mainstream" environmental study a few years back.

------

Either way... Nevadians, enjoy the snow, and PLEASE BE CAREFUL. If / When it snows here (or "ice pellets", as it is forcasted)... i'm screwed, and taking the bus to school.
