I couldn't possibly imagine what it's like to work in one of those places in trendy areas of NY or LA, or even in new money mcMansion burbs, must be hell. But at the same time, it's gotta be said to the ranter: You work in a coffee shop, get over yourself. Don't blame "being an artist" for being broke, there are plenty of artists all over the world that do quite well. You may have to actually go to school and get a degree, but there are plenty of folks in the corporate world converting their artistic talents into cold hard cash. Look up the terms: Industrial Design and Graphic Art. And especially don't whine about being broke if you don't work full time. So what if Starbucks doesn't give you 40/week, get a second job.

Some of the baristas act like they are doing me a favor when they talk to me, the paying customer. And yes, I am a good customer, always saying please and thank you and the like.

Exactly.
It reminds me of the old riddle:

How do you get a Liberal Arts major off your front porch?

Pay him for the pizza.

Excellent rant but the way I see it is that none of these things help anything except let the person vent. lol. I had a terrible sales associate position when I was around 17 years old and I would hate it when people would come in and look at every shirt that is folded and I would have to go behind them and re-fold it. I HATED THAT but I realized that was my job. No matter what I said or did there would still be 5 more people that day doing the same thing.

All of us on this board and posting on the topic has been that customer to someone at some job. It probably was not on purpose either. We just go about our days doing what we do and probably ____ off someone or sometwo without even knowing it. We are not bad people or _____ES are some would describe each other. Yes i AGREE there are some people out there that know they are doing it and don't care, those people should get there ___ kicked. But, it is small insignificant stuff like that I mostly read in this rant and I have much more important things to worry about like paying my mortgage, making sure I keep my health up, and making sure there is food in the fridge.

I am not saying these rants are dumb. All I am saying is we all have been the barista and we all have been the caffeine addict at one point. For me at least, I don't try to be annoying or a bad customer on purpose but at the same time I want my order or shirt to be what I wanted and my size cause at the end of the day it is my money I am spending that I earned and yes I DO want it my way so if I feel it is not being done my way I will question it to make sure. lol.... OK I am done. Gotta go and get a coffee now.

HOPE I DID NOT ANNOY ANYONE AND IF I DID...................just know this rant did not annoy me.

Here are mine...I work in the parts department at a Toyota dealership.

1. Your car is an O-two or a two-thousand-two....not a two-o-two or a twenty-o-two.
Also, your RAV4 is not a 1976. They weren't building them yet...

2. Even though you are at a Toyota dealership, and I am assuming you are asking me for Toyota parts, I still need to know the model to get you the correct parts.
Example...Customer: "I need wiper inserts" Me: "Ok...what kind of car do you have?"
Customer (in a very _____y tone) "Toyota! I am at the Toyota dealership, aren't I?"
I have never wanted to slap somebody so bad in my life.

3. Please at least have some clue about what you are asking me for. Some people just aren't good at describing things, especially over the phone. If you are that clueless, maybe you shouldn't be working on your car yourself. Bring it in!

4. Yes, it really is $68 for one wheel cover. I don't make this stuff up. You lost it. Don't get mad at me!

5. The wiper insert is the part that actually contacts your windshield. The blade holds the insert and the arm holds the blade. I have known this since I was 12 years old. I don't think it's difficult to understand.

I've got yall all beat. A pizza counter in Austin (for those of you that know, the Central Market pizza place on N. Lamar):

"How big is your 7" pizza?"

I'm not making that up.

I love all these industry specific rants!

And the original rant... analyze it or complain about it all you want. Its still freaking funny. And I don't think it was so much a whine about how much they make there as much as it was that he was ____ed that he's treated like a moron.

And BTW, if you are waiter in a nice place in Austin, and you see Michael Dell, know that you aint getting squat for a tip. Use that info as you wish.

And I understand the not wanting to be treated like a moron thing, seriously I do, but as a paying customer, I hate to see the hollier than thou attitude on the other side of the counter.

So you don't support the war? How about your freedom?
Damn I wish people would verify their facts before they post crap.

Nope, I agree! It's just nice to get out all your annoyances somewhere.. and this was the place this time. But I totally agree with what you said. Well put.

Stupid people are everywhere. . . not just at Starbucks. You really have to be full of yourself to think otherwise; that only YOU have it soooo bad.

I waited tables for the longest time. I found out that rather than getting angry at stupid people, I could learn to work harder and make the most of it. I used to make over $200 a DAY in tips. . . and now I make even more money, doing outside sales working with even WORSE people. My paycheck keeps me grinning ear to ear.

Successful people get mad at the world, and work harder to rise above it.

Unsuccessful people ____ and moan, and write useless letters trying to change something that can and will NEVER change.

Most of the service industry does not get the wage/benefits package that Starbucks employees do. Why do some industries pay higher? Because the jobs SUCK. Hate your job? Work harder, build a resume, and get promoted or quit and find a better one. If you work hard and succeed, there is no reason why you can't find a better job.

If something in the world sucks, there is only one person to blame and one alone. Yourself! It's a fact that people don't change, so the only way to get out of a bad situation is to adapt and evolve.

But since the guy who wrote the "letter" was probably just venting and trying to crack some jokes. . . yeah, it was a funny read.

omg that is so true it's not even funny. Especially the Bit where the person grabs the first coffee to come out because it HAS to be theirs. I get that all the time at my job.

I agree with Sid tho. Recently I found out if You just don't pay attention to these people, it makes the day go by a lot faster.

I get stuff like that sometimes. People ask me if the Regular is bigger the the small all the time. Best one yet so far was when some guy was staring at the menu for at least 10-15 minuets. And when he went to order, he tried getting something that wasn't even on the menu but at a different store.

When I was at Dominos, we'd field 20 calls a day asking for the Stuft Crust pizza when it first came out. I so wanted to ask them, "do you drive up to McDonalds and ask for a Whopper?"

I imagine!

Those same people go to Wendy's and ask for Happy Meals and McNuggets.

Tom, hence the reason I said:
1 - "I could be wrong"
2 - "I have to find the actual post"
3 - "heard about this"

I never said it was true or not and I am sorry if I made it sound that way or offended you... you did a nice job of assuming.

I happen to like Starbucks coffee, and I am former military.

But thanks for the post... I will show my GF (as she is the one who told me about it).
