Insurance to cover Custom paint??
Does anyone have special or extra insurance that covers your custom paint if you get into an accident??
I was just rearended and I learned that my regular insurance won't cover custom paint and thank god i got hit by someone and found out.
Any ideas, or know of any insurance companies that sell that type of insurance.
Thanks
Devon

esurance has optional coverage for repairing or replacing custom parts stolen or damaged on the car. they said it was for things like custom wheels and tires, stereos etc. i think the maximum coverage is like $3000 dollars or something of coverage.

I have Travelers Insurance and was in an accident recently and they paid to replace and/or fix all my custom parts as well as re-doing the custom paint. and i don't pay anything extra per month

Absolutely!
Its a customization endorsement just like your rims or stereo upgrades would need.
Safeco and Acuity are just a couple of many companies that I sell for that offers this extra protection.

Yes, I have about $14,000 in extra coverage through Nationwide.
My xB has a wheelchair ramp, and though the car depreciates at a certain rate, the ramp does not., i.e. the xB would be worth less when wrecked but the ramp would still cost the same to replace. They needed to do some special adjustments to cover that, the two-tone paint, engine mods and stereo upgrades. I think it's running me an extra $80 / year and I had to send in an itemized cost sheet for it.
eSurance wouldn't cover me since they couldn't handle two depreciation rates. GEICO I used to have but after they wouldn't cover engine repairs when I had the optional mechanical breakdown coverage I'm done with them. All-state, State Farm, etc. similarly wouldn't cover the ramp. Not sure if AIS is available in MD.

I'm kind of confused... was someone trying to say they wouldn't cover just the RS paint? That's not "custom" paint in my mind... that's just the color of your car and should be covered no matter what - expensive or not.
If you actually have a custom paint job or one-off color or something, ya, you'd have to check with your company about add-on coverage. I think I have like $2000 extra coverage through Progressive (can get as much as I want). It's just that if it ever comes to claiming some of that extra $, I just have to be able to show proof.
