First Look Report - Chicago Auto Show
I was lucky enough to score tickets from my boss to the First Look at the auto show last night and I have to say it was amazing. For those who don't know what the First Look is it's basically a charity event where you get in before it opens to the public and there's basically open bars with champagne and beer, and awesome food spreads set up all around the show. You basically eat, drink, and climb over all the sweet rides and avoid the crowds.
Anyway, the show is pretty sweet this year, there's a bunch of really cool stuff. Toyota and Scion have pretty nice displays, Jeep has a thing where you can ride around a little track and go up hills and stuff, DUB has a tiny display, 50 Cent's Charger is in there. It's worth going to the show.
Anyway, my wife and I are strolling around and when we get to the pontiac booth there's a big stage with XRT banners and drums and guitars and stuff and the dj guy is making an announcement that the music is going to start in about 5 minutes. We decide to hang around and see who it is who's going to come out and play. 5 minutes later XRT goes live and announced the BoDeans are playing! It was awesome because there were maybe like 60 people standing around the stage and they played a whole set which was just awesome!
Later on we were cruising through the lexus booth and Kevin Bacon's band (his brother is in it with him and it's creatively named The Bacon Bros. Band, don't know how they came up with that one) came out and played for like an hour. They were surprisingy good, unlike most movie-star-turned-rock-star-wannabe bands.
I had to laugh because Jeep/Chrysler had a band playing (I don't know who they were but they were good) and they launched into a Vanilla Ice/Young MC medley, which is funny because the band I played with in High School used to do the same thing, I think they ripped us off. lol
I also ran into Jim Farley, who was the vp of Scion and is now back in the Toyota fold. Jim is an awesome guy who played a huge role in Scion's success and it was great seeing him again and really nice to meet his wife. He was gracious enough to take the time to walk me through the new FJ Cruiser, which I think is going to be my next car unless the lottery pays off for me and I can get my Vanquish or M5. It is a beauty.
As if that wasn't enough there was free Goose Island everywhere, the food rocked, and there were no crowds to fight and you had plenty of time to really check everything out. I have to admit, this is one the best events I've ever been to, well worth the hassle of renting a tux.
Anyway, those of you who are going to the show this week are in for a treat.

Oooh...I forgot to mention this: The 5-axis stretch limo xB was in the Scion booth and somebody slapped a Scion Evolution sticker on the windshield! They're also passing out the new Scion Magazine, which was nice to get because my local dealership never has them in stock.
Every time I go for an oil change or something I go into the Scion showroom and 1)there is never a salesperson. Ever and 2) never any magazines or brochures. At least the computers are running so I can check email!

figures- the one year i couldn't go...
it's always a great time going to that event -- plus, it being for charity never hurts either.
yup, we're everywhere... hehehe
too bad the Scion display is the same one from THREE YEARS AGO!
