I'm hoping to get a tc in the near future and I was wondering a few things.

Ok first off is the ipod jack in the center console just a usb jack?

and second if yes, then can you plug in something like an external hard drive or a flashdrive with music and play it on the radio?

I know of radios that will scan the device for music and play it, so i was just wondering if this was like that and they were just marketing it toward ipod for obvious reasons.

 

The iPod jack is specific to the docking port on the iPod. However, there is an aux in jack that will connect anything with a 1/8" headphone port.

So, if you wanted to hook up any old mp3 player, you'd use the aux jack. You do not, however have control of that player via the headunit.

If you don't have an iPod, don't bother with the upgraded headunit.

There are devices out there now that will connect to an external hard drive. I would wait and grab one of those.

I would assume that the 08 tC will have the new family of headunits to choose from also.

 

If you do end up with a tC that does not have the jack or the iPod input, you can always get an adapter kit that will give you an RCA left and right connection, and you get a cable to turn that into an 1/8 connection. It's pretty much what I did on mine and worked great.

If you're wanting a ton of music and thinking of doing the external HD route, you may want to take up the idea of a car PC as well. More work, but more options.

yea, but the 08 is really ugly too
