Default Front Plate

It's an IL law to "have" a front plate.

When I got my car new I made wure they didn't put on my front plate. I keep it inside the car on the passenger side & if I'm nervous where it is parked I put it up on the dash.

I have not gotten a ticket yet. I guess just lucky. Depends on if you run into an officer friendly or not.

I have such bad luck with the "law" that I need to be a good boy and have my front plate on...
For some reason, my Box gets the attention of the cops wherever I go!

For 10 years I haven't had a front plate on my car. I always have it in the backseat just in case. I figured I'll tell the cop my bracket broke, but I've never had a single problem

I keep mine on, just because I don't want some cop to see no front plate and then further inspect the car...

Better safe than sorry... I don't want to get pulled over for no plate and end up with a ticket for no reflectors, or HID.

HID?? you think the cop here will think that its not stock ? lol just giving you crap Ian. thats the joys of an 08 and a scion, i can tell cops if they even try that, that its stock :-p

i wish we didnt have to have front plates. i'm still waiting on a response from delta where his buddy got a relocation bracket that way i can easily take off the front plate at shows.

I got a couple of tickets for no front plate (2 different cars), back about 15 years ago. So because of that, on my last car (which I had for 10 years), I had the front plate on the whole time.

But when I got my tC, I figured I'd take a chance again and told the dealer, "no holes in the front bumper." They obliged and so far so good....no tickets since I've had it which is about 2 and a half years now.

I do keep the plate handy between the passenger seat and the console, but I don’t really think it’ll do me any good if I ever do get pulled over for it.

I guess I could always try what maximthegreat said….

Come to think of it, I’ve gotten pulled over several times since I got this car and they never mentioned it. Luckily I’ve gotten out of each offense except one….rolling through a stale yellow.

One thing for sure though, don’t keep it propped up on the inside of your windshield. Cops don’t like that. Not to mention having a sharp projectile flying around inside your car if you get in an accident.

I relocated my plate also, I prefer it, and I think it looks cleaner.

well i have front plates, but they aren't state plates. I have the JDM plates and cops see them all the time and don't really say much. I mean its almost like no having plates in the front because either way their not legal. I did get pulled over one time, but for speeding... and he mentioned something about changing the front one. I just always thought what are the odds that i'll get pulled over by the same cop again or that he'll even remember me if he did.

I say screw the front plate... make up an excuse and move on with it. I'm sure the most they will do is warn you and if you do get a ticket... you can always go to court and appeal and I'm sure the judge will ask you if you put the front plate on, LIE and say yes (LIKE HE'S GOING TO CHECK) and the ticket will be dismissed... wa la. ;)

No front plate either, and no problems around Chicago area. I've gotten pulled over and they didn't even mention it. I don't even carry it with me (in fact, I think I've lost it...)

as long as you don;t drive stupid, the police won;t harass you about a front plate. thing about all the Ferrari's, Vettes, etc that don run front plates. you think they get pulled over? some are owned by cops...oh I don't have plates on either of my cars and have been checked by police.

i didn't even get stoped in Cali where it was mandatory front plate. So much so that even Vettes had 'em. But I got stopped for headlight blackouts and questioned about the rears that are OEM tinted

x2. Jim hits the nail on the head. As long as you aren't doing anything stupid to get noticed, they (cops) could care less about your plates.

My girl just got pulled over Friday for no front place. She wasn't driving crazy. She was just coming back from dropping her daughter off at her moms. The cop saw her on her way in, then waited around for her to come out. She was driving my old tC. The cop asked her why she didn't have it on, and she told her that her boyfriend (me) showed the car and took it off for shows. The cop just laughed and said she understood. She got a 48 fit it ticket. I don't have holes in the bumper, so I'm just going to zip tie the plate on to the grille, take it to the station to show them it is on, then take it back off when I get home.
