Place to Service Check Engine Light on tc?
My check engine light came on and i need a place to service it. Also i hear a clinking noise in the engine area. So it might be the cause of the light. Any good places to go to in the great lakes area?

And for future reference, if you just want to get the code read and the light reset - any Autozone should be able to do that for you. At least can give you an idea what might be wrong.
That said, like the other guy pointed out, dealer should be your first stop - ESPECIALLY if you think something else is wrong.
Good luck.

dont bother, i can tell u what it is. like i told u, the exhaust didnt bolt completely tight with the stock midpipe, so it is reading some sort of exhaust problem. once u get the midpipe and put it on, it will mount on there perfect and the code will go away on its own; if not, then u will need to either unplug the battery for a while, or go to autozone and get the obd ll and reset it
dont spend money at the dealer, its nothing

yea definately check out Autozone before going to the dealer.
What i normally do is goto autozone, get the error code and do my research before deciding were to take it to get fixed. You'll be suprise how much you can save after doing your own research istead of taking it directly to the dealer.
Best of luck

have you checked your oil level recently?
when was the last time the oil was changed? and was it changed with the correct oil weight?
could just be the hydraulic lifters ticking -- somewhat common for them during the cold winter months

Scion now recommends 5w20 for all tCs but 5w30 should work fine. 5w20 is better since it gets into the bearings better. Also being thinner, you should get better gas mileage. Down side is that it will burn off faster than 5w30 will.

Check engine lights:
Well you can go to autozone to get the code, 9 times out of 10 they wont clear the code for you. You will have to diagnose the problem, repair the problem, then have an repair shop clear the code. If you dont repair the problem and are coming up on an emissions test you will fail. On another note Check Engine Lights can clear themselves or go away if the problem was intermittant, it will take a certain amount of key cycles without the problem reoccuring for this to happen. Some people may think that undoing the battery will clear the codes however this doesnt work. In order for your computer to recognize that the problem is fixed the computer will have to run a series of monitors, these monitors run specific tests and the vehicle has to pass these tests for the check engine light to stay off. If you dont have luck repairing your car you can always come and see me (Josh). Hollywoodmotorsinc.com
Ticking Noise:
Id say bring the car by for me to listen to the noise, these are some things it can be.
1) Fluid level
2) Pulley bearing (i.e. idler, crank, tensioner)
3) Debri
4) Engine bearing
If the noise is only while moving:
1) Strut mount
2) Body Mount
3) Suspension bushings
I hope this helps a little. Good Luck!
