Default Dallas/Texas Laws concerning tail lights, other Lights.

I was looking at putting a LED underbody kit on my car, I searched the DMV website, and couldn't find any laws about them. I did a search in the main forums and people reported different laws from different states, but nothing about Texas. Some states, you can have them.. but not drive with them on, and some you can have them, and drive with them on as long as they are a certain color. Does anyone know what the laws in Texas are?

Also, I was wanting to smoke my tails, but read on the Texas DMV website that it's not legal.. Has anyone had trouble with the law concearning their tails?

Sorry I'm asking so many questions.. I guess that's what being new is all about.

I was running smoked tails on my BSP xB and haven't had any problems with police even went to Oklahoma. As to it being illegal I dunno.

ok the neon laws for tx said so many times but have lead to different things.... neons are allowed but most the time they can not be on while driving. if u had it parked an had them on it was fine.... every color is ok but like most states are u CAN NOT have blue and red flashing or strobing. that is a major ticket. but many cops are different have do give tickets regaurdless of what color... as u know most tx cops can be........ beep ...... ... tail lights being smoked as far as i know they have to be visable for more than 200 feet or somthing like that at night or 59 feet.... i forgot. but it depends where your going an how the cop is.,,, i know one of our guys had his done wit 20 perfect smoked an going to south padre got pulled over cause it wasnt visable at night.

^^^ thats about what i remember as well.
i found the official website for it too one time but idiot me forgot to bookmark it.

I also heard from a friend who was told by a cop (!?), if you can see the tubes, the cop can ticket you.
but my front tube is just about where everyone can see it and I have passed within 5 feet of a cop who can clearly see the tube and have not gotten so much as a look.

and i think the blue or red flashing is fine if your parked. I have gotten away with it.....

What I have found out so far from being on the phone all day lol. Smoked tails are legal, but you have to be able to see the lights from 1000 FT. However, I was told on the phone by the DMV that unless you have someone in your pocket, they won't pass inspection.

A friend of mine that used to work at Car Toys told me today that the underbody lighting is totally legal, as long as none of the bulbs are visible.

Thanks guys, you rock.

My understanding on the underbody is that the light source cannot be visible. But like he said certain colors will get you busted and of course, cops CAN be terds...

The tails, the visibility is important, and you have to be able to see the reflector in the tail as well...

u should have any problems but u know how tx law men can be......... each one is different. but yeah bars can not be seen. even on the inside there not supposed to be visible while drivin i think. but even parked an the blue/red are flashing they give u a ticket. but if its a slightly other color in the mix they will just hassle u.

i have mine parked with blue scanning all the time when we are out. (i pimp the 7 color for shows)

and cops have seen it and haven't given me any problems.

i was under the impression that the blue/red was only if you were moving. cause then people could confuse you for an emergency vehicle and respond as if you were one. thats what they officially are against.

not sure how that can get you in trouble if you are not driving.
your "showing" the car and they cant get on you for that.

meh, they haven't gotten on me for it so im still gonna show off when I do.

According the the TX HP officer that pulled me over when I was down last weekend, you can't have yellow headlights...but everyone else says they are legal.
