Default the new Texas license plates...wtf!

which one of you crazies voted for this junk? it shows the hillcountry, clouds/sky and a kid colored a crappy flag. why cant we have the "simple" look to it. this thing is hideous looking. too much color and it doesnt flow well. I didnt have a problem with the current version but this new one is crap! i think its every 7yrs you need to change plates so ill be good untill 2012 but f*ck! ive seen them around recently and today my grandmother just got her new plates so i saw them in person. i would LOVE to go to the plain jane version like this...

questions, comments or concerns direct them to your governor!

Time to start looking into club/organization plates if TX offers them.

i admit...i voted for them but we had to vote for something because they were going to change them no matter what since we went from 6 digits to 7 digits...BUT that was the best looking one out of all of them

i thought that plain one was ugly, but the new one is too much.
didn't mind the last one with the shuttle and horse

at least you can either go vanity or club/organization/random group and those are simple. the vanity ones is almost the exact one you want above but simpler, lol

The new plates are @$$ ugly!
Beyond that, did you notice that ALL of the plates do not use raised lettering anymore? What's to stop people from making counterfeit plates? The state is already full of fake DLs, fake insurance, etc., etc.. At least with the plate, the police could trace an address through DMV records in the event of a hit-and-run, which is happening more and more these days. With it easier to make counterfeit plates, it will be WAY TOO EASY for someone to get away with hit-and-runs, stolen vehicles, getaway cars, etc., etc..
Someone at TXDOT didn't think this through very well.

Personalized plates are one thing, the standard plates are another.
There aren't enough personalized plates out there for a swap scheme to work. You would need similar plates on similar-looking vehicles.
For example, if I were planning any major robbery or heist and needed a good getaway car, I would find something common, then print out a plate that matches someone else's similar car. This way, if the plate was spotted by a witness, it is more likely to throw the police off and make them waste their time on a false lead.
...same thing for illegal drivers. It would be very easy to duplicate someone else's plate where the car description matched the plate.
Any police officer who runs the plate is going to assume the car is who the plate claims it to be. If the illegal driver was involved in an accident and fled the scene, any witness who could identify the plate would be giving incorrect information that would lead the police in the wrong direction, allowing the guilty party plenty of opportunity to change the plate again, making them even more difficult to track down.
The stamped plates made this much more difficult to accomplish and in most cases, not worth the effort. The new design is such that anyone with a decent printing capability could produce plates cheaply and easily. ...a whole new illegal business.
