Blue Tail Lights
I live in Delaware & just aquired some blue-painted OEM tail lights for my Blue xB.
Now I'm sure this is tricky, but the red parts of the lights still shine red & appear dark red when not lit.
According to Delaware/DMV law, there cannot be any mods to lights, but it specifically states on the FRONT of the vehicle/HEADlights. Under "tail lights" on the DMV website, it states that they just need to be red & shine red for up to 500+ feet, which they do, & technically the red areas of the lights ARE still a red color, just a Very deep, burgandy-like red,,,& shine a medium/muted red when lighted.
I printed the DMV rules/law out to put in my vehicle,,,
So do ya'll think I'm safe w/ these? I'll try to post pics, but the lights are baby blue colored, & the red areas are now dark red...

welp
Good point skier
Hmmm, I know it shines thru dark red, but like I said in the original post/topic:
Delaware law states that only the HEAD/FRONT lights can NOT be colored, & only thing 'bout the TAIL lights is that they must be red & shine at least 500ft.
So technically it doesn't state any restrictions about other colors shining thru.
I'll get them assembled again/post photos & see what ya'll think, thanks!

If you put on some red reflectors that are visible besides the one's inside the housing you should be good as long as the lights light up red. BUt in all honestly it's only illegal if they stop you.. And every cop has there own interpretation of the rule book...

federal DOT standards are going to trump anything at the state level. I *believe* that there is a DOT req that the rear of the vehicle have red reflectors. How do the reflector parts look when lit by a vehicle behind you?
also, one thing to consider, if this issue is puzzling to you, there's a good chance it will puzzle the cops. many of them in my area don't really know all the ins and outs of exactly what's legal or not, and if bored, will just pull you over to figure it out.
