Default Important things you should know about Kentucky

Since I have been a devout Kentuckian all of my life, I am allowed to list the following about my home state:

Possums sleep in the middle of the road with their feet in the air.

There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 live in Kentucky.

There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 live in Kentucky, plus a couple no one's seen before.

If it grows, it sticks; if it crawls, it bites.

Onced and Twiced are words. (This one is true!!!!)

It is not a shopping cart, it is a buggy. (This one is true too)

People actually grow and eat okra. (and like it!)

Mamanem means the whole family. ("Are mamanem comin?")

There ain't no such thing as "lunch or dinner'". There's only breakfast and then there's supper.

Backards and foreards means I know everything about you.

Jeet? is actually a phrase meaning "Did you eat yet?"

You know you're from Kentucky if:

1. You measure distance in minutes.

2. You've ever had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day.

3. Stores don't have bags; they have sacks.

4. You see a car running in the parking lot at the store with no one in it, no matter what time of the year.

5. You use "fix" as a verb. Example: I am fixing to go to the store.

6. All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect or animal.

7. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.

8. You carry jumper cables in your car ... for your OWN car.

9. You know what "cow tipping" is.

10. You only own four spices: salt, pepper, chili powder, and catsup. No genuine Kentuckian ever called it "Catsup". Down here it's "Ketchup" and let's not forget pepper sauce for the turnip greens!

11. The local papers cover national and international news on one page but require 6 pages..for sports.

12. You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.

13. You find 90 degrees Fahrenheit "a little warm."

14. You know all four seasons: Almost summer, summer, still summer, and Christmas.

15. You know whether another Kentuckian is from east, west, or middle Kentucky as soon as they open their mouth.

16. Visiting Wal-Mart is a favorite pastime known as "going to wal-marts."

17. You describe the first cool snap (below 70 degrees) as good chili weather.

18. A carbonated soft drink isn't a soda, cola, or Coke... it's a Pop, regardless of brand or flavor. Example "What kinna pop you want?"

19. Fried Catfish is the other white meat.

I love it! I grew up visiting my relatives in Harlan county (still have a lot of family living up in the hollers of Eastern Kentucky). I still get down to Middlesboro on a regular basis. Only in Kentucky does a boy get a gun before he gets a bike!

Since I grew up in the midwest(kansas) and moved to the deep south(South Carolina). Kentucky really sounds like a weird hybrid of the two. Sacks and pops are very midwest....The weather, bugs, snakes, jeet, and walamrts are very southern things.

These are so true. I've lived in Louisville and Bowling Green.
For those of you in Louisville, is phonix hill still around? That place so rocked when I was there.

I moved to Ky from jersey, HAAHAA some funny ____ on that list. When I moved here the first thing I saw was that big ___ water tower that says Florence YALL, and said to myself Holy ____ what did I do.
-- I was on line at kroger's and an old lady asked me to move my buggy( i didnt have a clue what a buggy was) so I thought that was her polite way to tell me to get my ___ out of the way.
--The looks people give when I tell them I don't follow football is insane, I'd get the same look if I pulled Santa off his chair and kicked him in the ********* in front of the children.
-- As far as spiders, seriously are they super breed down here, I've seen some ____ here that blows my mind. There was a brown spider in my driveway that could have ate small farm animals for all I know. I refuse to keep sneakers in my garage for that reason.
--But I really like it here and theres great BBQ, BBQ+Guinness=happiness........
----I miss pizza, taylor ham and bagels oh and hotdogs
