No E-Town for me this time around... oh well. Does anyone know if Tod registered? On the bright side, my Economic Stimulus Check should arrive this week which means I can pay off my remaining credit card debit and start having fun again.

What's up with those Beantown pics?

Vince, I need some camera help. I'm looking for a lens that would work well underwater. Any suggestions?

For a Nikon D40

Rofl, not to waterproof it, something that would be good in low lighting settings where I can't use a mount .

Now that I think about, yea you did haha. So time to re-word.

I need a Nikon AF SLR camera lens that would work well in underwater settings.

Well, I guess for underwater photography you'd want a lens with at least an image stabilization component to it. In Canon lenses it's referred to as IS and in Nikkor lenses I believe it's "VR" or Vibration Resistant. Just about any lens that can mechanically adjust for camera shake will be a huge benefit in such an unsturdy environment like the sea or pool.

Check this site WetPixel.com for news articles and reviews of gear for underwater photography. The first lens I saw that looked appropriate was the Nikon 105mm VR lens:

http://wetpixel.com/i.php/full/nikon-105mm-vr-review/

Like any camera lens of good quality, it's pretty expensive. You can try to save a few bucks and find a Sigma or Tamron lens for your Nikon. For instance:

Nikon 105mm f/2.8G AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor Lens - $750
Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG Macro - $340

The catch is, the Sigma lens won't have image stabilization... but then again, you could just put the camera in manual focus mode. Hope this helps.

Thanks Vince! I'm sure something else will come out between now and then. I'm trying to budget myself to about $2500 over the next 18 months for camera equipment. $1100 of which will be for the waterproof housing, so hopefully I'll be able to pick up a good VR lens (I'd actually want something in the lower zoom range like 18-40mm) then a good wide angle lens for landscape shots.
