Is there a difference in performance between the two? VERY noticeable. As backwards as it is, the Falkens have a much higher adhesion limit... one that I've tested myself.
I would take a serious look at the new Falken FK452s as well.
Then again, I tend to drive my car a little harder through the turns than most do, so I tend to truly appreciate a tire that can exceed my expectations when it comes to staying glued through the corner.

ok, it's official, i didn't even get my system up to 28, and it's deafaning...

subs were at 7 out of a 15 max...

I'm thinking of just buying the rims from SR Audio and getting either the Falken Ziex ZE 512 tires or the Toyo Proxes 4 tires. Here's a couple of noob questions for ya: How the heck do you pick the sizes (inches and/or mm, for lugs, cap/ring and valve stem) for an install kit? And how do you buy a tire for a 18x8 rim as opposed to a 18x7.5 rim? Or do all I need to know is 225/40/18?

You're going to want 12x1.5 lugs. As far as hubcentric rings go, I know my hub diameter is 54.1, so you're going to need to find out the internal diameter of the hub on the Axis wheels. Most aftermarket wheels are either 67mm or 73mm. So, you should need something like a 54.1 to 67mm or 73mm hubcentric ring.
For the tire issue... you're going to want a slightly wider tire for that extra half inch. Say you would mount a 215 on a 7.5" wide wheel, I would go with a 225 width on a 8" wide wheel.
Here's a sample of a tire dimension: 205/50/16. 205 is the width in millimeters, 50 is the sidewall aspect ratio (bigger number = bigger sidewall), and 16 is the wheel size.
Thus, you should probably get a 225/40/18 tire.
