Default NY, Tinted Tail lights ***updated with pics***

Just wondering if anyone knows that law about having Tinted Tail lights in NY. My girlfriend bought me Garage1217's (Jeremy) custom painted TYC Tail lights for my birthday and I put them on yesterday. They are candy coated and are pretty dark but leave open the entire clear part where the red LED lights come through. The rest is really dark. almost black. Do you think I'll get pulled over. I had some looks today from cops on my way to work. Anyone know the law. I may have to go back to stock....

Well I'm in westchester ny and my tails look almost identical to yours but they are tinted with a window tint and I haven't been pulled over for them yet but from what I know they are semi illegal knowing me now that I jus said that I'm gonna get pulled over for them but I haven't yet but knowing ny cops it would b a reason too

If I am correct, and I believe I am, your tails must show the reflectors in the tails. If they are not showing or if there are no reflectors, I believe they are illegal

How Much? I may be interested in them. Cops on LI dont really care about the tinted tails... only the tinted windows and headlights

well i took them out of the car. my car got some damage to it from a freaking shopping cart and will be going into the shop within the next two weeks. so i have them out, wrapped up with care, and in a box. Thinking about selling them off. If I do I'll let you know how much. They are in EXCELLENT condition. these things are beautiful but cops around here are dicks. it sucks. I'll let you know by the end of the week whether im selling or not. thanks man.

o an yes, this isn't cheap vht night shade paint. its a custom candy paint color from body shop that was done with a paint gun which lets 100% light through and looks awesome. Also has a few coats of awesome clear coat on them for an OEM like finish.....just way more shine to it. pictures do no justice. Jeremy had them done in AZ. Lets just say the paint job is worth way more then the tail lights are brand new. lol.

i'll keep you updated.

me and my bf both smoked our tail lights using the spray.. came out amazing.. law is that if you stand 1000 ft back and you can see the red of your tails.. your good.. my bf got pulled for his exhausted and the cop tried to get him for his tails and the cop walked bak 1000 ft and they were good. and he smoked out his tail lights to the point where they are black.. mine i did a few shades lighter than him

it doesnt take that long.. i didnt bother to take out the tail lights .. me n my bf taped off our cars.. used painters tape went inside the cracks around the tail light then split black garbage bags in half and taped up half of the car and the bumper to prevent any overspray from getting on the car .. let that dry for a bit .. did both of our cars in less than 30mins lol to much of a PIA to take the lights out .. i like the flat look instead of the gloss so thats why i went with the spray rather then buying the overlays.. and it blends right in with the color of my car haha

yea, i knew about the 1000ft law, but cops here are douches. They claim the "Reflector" needs to show 100%. freaking low life cops. nothing better to do. lol. Anyways, im either putting them back on or selling. i'd hate to let them go, they're so beautiful and perfect like an OEM finish. Plus, they cost a pretty penny to do from what Jeremy told and showed me.
