They're more practical to me than my scion which sucks driving long trips in, and my 89 battle tank which is starting to need repairs.

Im taking the train to work, so thats a HUGE savings every month.

i guess if you factor in the fact that a used car is going to be thousands cheaper then a new car even with 12mpg it would be cheaper.

Safety and reliability are my main concerns. Granted i love my battle tank, that thing has gotten me through hell and back, but it may be time to retire it. I want a car that I can take Sonya, Sal and his (pregnant with twins) wife Angela out to dinner in, and not have to worry about ride quality, or if we're going to make it home.

What about a Chrysler 300? its big, american, rwd and pretty safe. i bet you can pic one up for dirt cheap right now. Even new im sure they have a pile of cash on the hood. although the MPG around town has to be scary haha.

ill look into a little but i think the 300 is high reliability ratings. and you could call it a left over mercedes haha

what about the current Ford Fusion or Taurus? they are getting really good reviews, really really safe and very reliable.

if your looking for a bit smaller car or better MPG. the current Civic, Jetta/rabbit, sentra, Corolla all have really really really good safety ratings. Mazda 3 is behind a little but its due for a redesign in the next year.

edit -

go here to check out safety ratings
http://www.safercar.gov/

this place has accurate real world reliability ratings also.

why you want rwd? isnt that a bit impractical for winter driving...especially in the northeast?
edit: oh, you want fwd........am i reading that right? lol.

well, ive always had big cars up until the scion. My first car was a Pontiac Bonneville, next came the Mercury Grand Marquis. I still have the merc, and added the Scion to the collection.

Taurus is okay, but more midsized. The civic, jetta, and 'rolla all will be too small for my needs.

yeh, but i really dont think you could fit me (6'5" 330lbs) and 3 other adults in the car comfortably.

Love the look of the new malibu. I want to get used though.

Get a used Rav 4 or Highlander. Both bigger cars w/ good reliability. And both can come w/ a 4WD package which is even more practical for winter driving.
