Almost all aftermarket headlights are illegal under California law.

Hard to see from the pic. But yeah. Illegal:

Blue and yellow headlights (headlights must be white and DOT approved) - CA Vehicle Code section 24011

Headlights brighter or higher wattage than those from the factory - CA Vehicle Code section 24011

everything is pretty much against the law in CA. haha. you guys have some of the most strict laws in the nation for cars. I have yet to be bugged with my HIDS, but WA is drastically different. I would vote dont mess with this law...

But did you change it after you first got your car? The cop probably thought it was too bright vs. stock.

Doesn't matter, this falls under "brighter or higher wattage than stock".

Well, rly sux man. You were just struck with bad luck with a cop in bad mood. Nothing much you can do but just settle the ticket.

(added) But again, assuming DOT-compliance. If you're confident about it, you can always contest it w/ the court/ref.

No, even if they are DOT-approved, they still do not meet all the requirements of California law. Your lights here have to be DOT-approved and no brighter and no more powerful than the stock lights. The last part is subjective, so basically a cop can pull you over for any type of bright aftermarket bulbs.

Don't worry man. It's just bad luck you got caught. Like Rod said, it is up to the cop to cite you or not. Just try to contest it and hopefully the Ref/Judge would dismiss your ticket. GL.
