Default Oregonites-Tint Ticket..need help

Hi gang...just need a little advice.
This last weekend my wife got pulled over for speeding on Hwy26, headed towards Seaside, alone in my tC (73in a 55).
I have no idea what she was thinking driving that fast through one of the state's biggest speed traps...But I'm not even upset about the speeding ticket. It's on her record.
Anyways, the officer also measured and cited her for the window tint. Came up 17.3% on his meter, I thought I had 15%. The back window & sides behind driver were tinted when bought the car, i don't know their %.
My question is, what are my options? Is this a fix-it ticket?
- Just remove the tint or have the doors redone to the legal limit?
- Get all of the windows untinted
- Just pay the ticket

He didn't give her any advice & she just said "Yes Sir." according to her.

I know that it's a secondary ticket issue & I had not been stopped in 13yrs (knock on wood). Knowing that I love having tinted windows, I never did anything to get stopped. I just had the doors tinted back in January.

Speeding 18mph over= $140
Illegal Tint= $245
Remove tint= $50 just for doors, don't know for entire car
Retint Doors= $120 (plus if they charge to remove)
Also, does anyone know where they come up with the dollar amount of the fine?

Thanks in advance.

15% would be illegal anywhere on the car except the back window......17% meens you have slightly less percentage than the 15% installed but still illegal on any window other than the back.not sure but think washington is 30% on the sides is max tint.the smaller number the darker it is....like 5% is limo tint.

Tell wife to walk to everywhere from now on as she is too expensive to drive........lol....guarantees if you have to walk or take bus for a month you never want to speed again.........lol........just bustin on you.....tickets suck.......waiting on my ticket I know is coming some day for the HKS exhaust........sad part is it is not loud loud......just stands out like a big flag that siays pull me over officer.......lol

i would just pay it.
and tell the wife next time roll both windows down when she gets pulled over..please?....jk jk..
but yea not much you can do on this if you have it removed and show the judge then he MIGHT reduce it but then your out a tint job.

Default Window Tint

We have 20% on our xb and it is legal in WA. Also we paid $100 to do the two front doors and a couple of bucks for the 6" strip on the Windshield. We love the tint, really save on the air conditioning in summer so lots more mpg. Also the strip on the windshield keeps your hands out of the sun on the steering wheel.
The cop probably just wanted to meet the pretty lady in the hot tC.

If you have a really nice eye doctor he can write you a note for the tint

Otherwise, always roll your tinted windows down when pulled over. See Fred Roman at "The Shop" on Canyon Road he should be able to hook you up.

I'd agree ^^ look around to see if you can get it done cheaper...AND see if they (police) will allow that part of the ticket to be a "fix-it" deal and they'd drop the fine.
Because once your car has been "tagged" for having illegal tint if you/or your wife get stopped again, they can increase the fine for the tint b/c you've been warned/cited once before for it.
Just my 2 cents.

Does it matter if the rear window & sides behinde the doors were tinted when I purchased the vehicle used from a dealership? I wonder if it had been tagged before & that's why the fine was so high & he didn't offer any advice.
Also, the officer had his little light meter in his hand when he approached the vehicle. It was like he already knew.
This is so ridiculous...Has anyone here had to "re-tint"before?

well not as YOU being the owner... Dealers can be evil little dirtbags if they want to be....all they have to do is sell the vehicle "as is" and they wash their hands of any liability of parts being legal / or not....on a car they sell. (minus safety/emissions controls that is)

well as for him already having his meter....police see things like that day after day...so they probably get pretty good at guessing if a car has too dark of tint for their state.

First quote on removal: $149 to remove all windows...$119 if I have them re-tint.... Retint ranging from $179(cheap stuff that turns purple over time) up to $239 (color stable)....so damage to wallet ranges from $149 to $298/$358.....gonna keep shopping around.

i got one of those tickets... unfortunately in oregon there are no "fix-it" tickets. a ticket is a ticket. but luckily for me the cop never showed up to court so i got off the hook.

as tinting, the oregon limit is 35% all around like Janesa said. the windows that come on the tC is already tinted to like... 87% i think... so if u slap on a 35% tint film on there it'll be 22% which makes it illegal regardless of what kind of film you use. The thing with their tinting law is, you must have at least 35% of light going through your windows regardless if you use a 35% film or not, its not the film, its the total percentage of light which i find pretty annoying.

The guy that i used for tinting charges $239 i think.. but i can give him a call to see how much it would cost to remove the tint. usually when i refer people to him, he only charges around $179.

let me know what you wanna do. but as far as the ticket goes, you're pretty much out of luck...

^ Judge? They just took it to the police station. Initially it was a ticket.
