Default Pothole 1 vs PIAA racing wheel 0

On my way home Saturday night I was cruising down the country road to my subdivision when I encountered a drastic (looked at it later nearly a foot deep harsh transitions) pot hole un-noticed I hit it hard and my right front tire was immediately flat. When I support vehicle arrived and we pulled the wheel to put on the spare we found this:

Depending on the pot hole, you can file a claim with the State of Oregon and get it replaced for free or the damages covered.

Wow, that's insane. I've never seen a wheel split in two before. Sorry for the bad luck, let us know how the rematch with the pothole goes...

It was not your average pot-hole and I was not paying attention so I hit it pretty square and hard. Would probably be the equivalent to hitting a 6 inch curb at 45 mph.

Ya Glen, just like the others say.. File a claim with the city where the pothole is & make sure you get a picture fast before they fill it 'cause i have heard rumors that here in WA they will pay for ur wheels if u hit a pot hole n it does damage like that. I even try to see if Piaa will replace ur wheel too 'cause that's bad & to me that's unsafe 'cause u think that the wheel should hold up a little better then that on pot holes.

I'm sorry to see what happend to yo, but I am sure you'll get it fixed soon & free

Holy S Glen. you were right that is horibble. i've seen dents and chips, even chunks removed but that is insane. you might want to have the alignment checked as well as the suspension components.

Ouch.... I've only seen 1 other wheel do that, and the guy drove over a curb at speed! Good luck with getting it fixed.

Okay, PIAA has this program for road hazard damage, if you curb your wheel or damage it on the road they will sell you a new wheel for 40% discount off current retail price. I called over and arranged to drop it off and pay for a new wheel. When I got there the guy had gone to lunch so I left the wheel with a note and went to get lunch myself. He called me about a half hour later and said they would go ahead and warranty the wheel, no charge. I still have to buy a tire but not haveing to pay for the wheel helps alot. The guy at PIAA was really nice, I asked about club sponsorship and he said we could work out a group buy with some really impressive discounts so I will get a thread started on the club site.

As far as a claim with the county, I will keep all the reciepts and try to get a picture of the pothole before they fill it. I am sure the county maintains the roads out here so I will have to start with them. All in all it worked out pretty good for me, $200 for a tire vs. $500 for a wheel and tire.

Dave, you list PIAA as a sponsor. What does that entail? What do they do for you as a sponsor?

Good luck with Washington County as well....

Glad your new Cargo lights worked...;)

Yep, back country road with no street lights, no flashlight in the car, I would have been fumbling around the back forever trying to get the spare etc without those lights. Definately a great mod!
