How much weight would a gallon of edead add to the car Brian? I'm finally considering doing my hatch and trunk floor...

... and I just washed my car with a friend so it's nice and shiny, when I get home from classes I'll vacuum and wipe down some interior stuff.

a gallon of water is 8 lbs (4 qrts), i cant imagine edead being any lighter.

4 quarts of e-dead can cover 48 sq feet in one layer. you may need more
layers to have any true effect. and 16 bucks a qrt.

and e-dead isn't flame retardant....look at the website under
specifications.. besides nothing in your car is really flame proof anyways.

(just on a side note)

tarco easybase weights 0.32 lbs (less than half a lb) per square foot. an
xb2 takes around 36 sq ft of material.

the easybase is also fiberglass reinforced. and has excellent thermal
characteristics would be great as far as winterization.

so i think it would be an excellent source of sound deadening at a low
weight ratio.

and a full roll can cover 216sq ft

just saying......

Pete I appreciate that you bring facts to the table when you have something to say, it's pretty impressive. You seem to have a massive wealth of car knowledge in that head of yours.

Gallon weighs 18lbs........once dry it at best can weigh 3/4 that so maybe 13 lbs per gallon.......

take a ride in Kekai's xB,that is al he has, inbetween his exhaust and inside and out side and in you can hear the differance in a block ride....

that is waht i wil do to yaris then do a ..45 layer of solid over the doors and wheel wells and then a .25 over that.....

Lets put it this way.....Cindys car has 150' of .080,and half a gallon of liquid in the back....she records about 134db inside and nearly nothing outside........it works and works well.......and that is at 600w to subs and 120w to each comp.......it is loud an clear inside.......it is jsut short of blowign our hair around like CJs did in the Speed.....

Deadening doen right makes a huge differance.......mind yhou the roofing material does work soem, but for the weight and cost you could go Liquid edead and get more,.........that is all I am saying......

i know most have sat in my car and know it rocks and I took all my info on how to from those that know.......so i know........and jsut want to help others do it right for the least amount of money......I am poor and think if there is an easy way we should do it........

I am not knocking roofing torchdown,it works.......but for the money you can get more.......and no toxic fumes.......

I Personally think Edead weighs more than water, the gallon was purty bulky. I only used one can on my car, at most to prevent vibrations in the metal. You really need to layer it, or you can do the edead mat on top of it as well. But I have been pretty happy with it.

just to clarify... i actually have 2 layers... 1 layer of dynamat extreme full floor and good chunk of doors (even a few strips on the roof) then the 2 coats liquid e-dead from front firewall to the back seat (only under the butt part of the seat) my subbox at the time was too much of a pain to remove to put it under the box.

both the mat product and the liquid product are great... the mat is easy to place down in large open areas and no dry time... the liquid is great to get into the nooks and crannies... and using both... = good times!! i think 1 gallon of edead would get you 2 good thick coats on the floor of a first gen xB with some left over

i did 2 coats on my floor and ended up giving brian the left over 1/4-1/3 of a can i think , if i order more for the xD im gonna thief some and put down in my sub area that i missed last go around.. help kill some more of the interrior exhaust noise

no prob... it prolly takes longer to gut the car , wait for drying and put the interior back in than it does to apply... i'd say do it in the late after noon early evening.. let it dry over night then in morning should be good to go.
i'd suggest hitting a dollar store or similar for cheep paintbrushes too.. no need to pay for spendy house paint types

Just be sure that when you coat things, don't coat over the holes with threads, the stuff dries very hard so trying to clear out the threads with dry edead is a bit of a pain.
