the 1.5 and 2.4 are indeed not the greatest to boost.....the amount of work to build the guts and then tune and then more tune...the cost to do it right is not cheap by far.

rule of thumb is if the motor came from an economy car it is not made to put out huge numbers.

Take motor from a car like the Eclipse that was already made to be sporty,or the 350z motor,or the WRX motor....all these are just better heaftier blocks.

now for anything it can be built to suit any need to some limit of the construction before it goes boom.......

I would love to see a transplant,it is one of those things I always liked doing......I still miss my Tempest with the Buick 300 fully built w 7800 redline, not bad for a stroked V8....Turbo 400 from a burnt to teh ground Olds.....and a Posi from an IMpalla.....shortened built driveline.....the list goes on and on......even new cars can be changed out once parts are sourced, which is probably the hardest part.....

I know toyota 1.5 and 2.4 can make power...look at Rado's tc...or Garm's 357hp Yaris from Micro Image....

I say build what ever ya got and enjoy....that is what I do....

It's going into my Mitsubishi Mirage, I have also been tossing around the idea of a 4g63 swap into the xB as the stock Scion motors are worthless to boost and I have experience swaping other unusual cars. For those who don't know the 4g63 is a turbo 4cyl. 2litre that is used in the evo, eclipse, talon, laser ect. The motor I have at home is the JDM version rated at around 215hp 215tq stock and the parts will be supporting 400 to the wheels comfortably. I'll post more pics here in a few weeks when I get the engine on the stand built and completed.

I'm doing this because of criticism towards my stupid and useless ricey things that I have done to my xB, time for something new and extreme.
the 2az-fe, even the xb 1nz-fe handles boost fine. has forged rods. its the "ecu" that doesn't. and people who jack around with installation and think they don't need a proper tune and ecu setup are the ones making fools of themselves..and making the motor seem bad when it isnt.

maybe having things like sparco on your car, when all you have is mudflaps with sparco stickers might be the reason people give you ish...just saying

Ha ha. Its funny, cause I have a gallon of BMS 10-11 primer I was gonna use, then changed my mind. Ended up with this, which turned out looking like 10-20. I showed a pic to our purchasing guy and he said "I thought I got you 10-11?".

Got the full catback setup from magnaflow installed this week. It sounds so good. Nice deep toned idle. Love it.

careful Blue. i don't know about down where you live but up in the everett area, cops pull you over a lot for an aftermarket exhaust. its primarily why i went back to TRD and got rid of my Tanabe Concept G.
