Well I got it done. LEDs in the bottom of the door panels wired up to the dome light to dim in and out and only come on when the door is open. 9 5 mm LEDs per door that I got from Garage 1217.

Passenger side

Driver Side

Inside shot of the passenger side door shut.

Movie at night of the driver side door

Movie of the passenger side door dimming in and out with the opening and closing of the driver's door.

Now time to clean my car up.

Thanks. My buddy gave me the idea, so I can't really take credit for it, but I did do the work. I can't wait to see them tonight.

Go for it man. When my friend told me I was trying to figure out why I never thought of it. The hardest part is finding the dome wires. Luckiy a SL member posted that when he did his BMW style LEDs in the door handle.

threw a rod last sunday on my stock motor. Now i have a sweet looking hole.
Found a core with crankshaft and sent it to ERL
Now building short block by ERL. Also need to find a good clutch to push more power on built motor.

How far apart did you placed the LEDs? You think i can use those thin led strips oznium sells? Doesn't the LEDs scrap your door sill?

When I measured it out and did the math, I placed one every 4.25 niches. The hardest part is making sure you are measuring the same and starting from the same starting point on each door. I just got out of the car tonight, (dark and rainy) and they put out a good amount of light. I was able to see a big puddle and step around it.

You could try the strips, I don't know how you would mount them, I guess tape or glue. I really don't know how durable the LEDs need to be. I am assuming they might be exposed to some more moisture. and I see those strips are water proof. I know the flat part of our door panel is about 35" (it depends how you measure) so the 28" might be a good route. I don't know how thick they are, so I don't know if they will fit under the door and not interfere with the closing of the door.

I wanted to uses these guys http://www.oznium.com/led-modules since they have adhesive on them already and then I could stick them to the bottom of the door and just run the wire. But they are a little pricey so I opted for the way I did it.

How did you mount yours beside drilling the hole? glue? tape? or just pressure?
