i did mines with the overlays, just in case one day i get pulled over by a cop so that i can just rip it off in his face..

you can also use a spray, its called nite-shade or something like that..

theres some window tint shops that do it, you can call em up and ask around

good luck!

I have tried VHT for tinting tails again and again and they turned out like CRAP every time...

To this day, I've never seen a clean tinted tail job done with VHT nightshades. They always look flat or inconsistent along with lense (with one part darker or lighter) And overylays look like overlays... with edges and still not as glossy as mine turned out to be.

Mine were done by www.jonstintedtails.com and they were better than any other cars tinted tails that I've seen, even at 50+ shows. With options for all kinds of special tints and light/medium/dark/superdark options.

I may even have him spray my 240z lights, as Nick (AKA Honey0Bucket) still hasn't perfected lighter tints, as his tints are too dark to keep the police off my back right now.

I got pictures here somewhere of my tC with the great tails........... ah ha.... here they are:

With the curvature of the tails on the tc it's really hard to lay down overlays flat without creasing, which I failed at so I went to a tint shop and they wanted $65 a piece to tint them. so I spent the $30 and bought vht night shades and clear coat off of Amazon.com and did it myself in a weekend. Came out really nice on my TYC's.

you can get good results from vht, it is just hard.

my friend mike has a shop in marysville and can tint them with automotive paint.

Im in Idaho. I can spray them for $60 + shipping and yours in return. I use automotive paint so the finish is durable and will last a long time. I usualy lay down 3 coats of clear so the light can be sanded and buffed out for an ultra smooth finish. I have a set of stock red tC taillights in my garage at the moment.
I also have 1st gen xB and 2nd gen xB taillights here ready to spray.

I'd use nick - honey0bucket on the forum he's pretty awesome and the most reasonable price you'll find.

Thanks for the plug Pete! Check out my FB page more in depth galleries of what we can do. We dont use VHT and any darkness is available, as well we can do gloss, semi or matte.

I used UPOL#1 instead of the duplicolor clear coat because I think it's a better product and I know alot of people use it in automotive and because I have had good results with other UPOL products. But either one would work fine just follow the DIY' on here I used both flea's and blackedouttc's.

^ Like it... I'd definitely go the professional route over VHT! Local shops doing cool stuff for the win! (wish I had a local option back in the day)

UPOL clear is nop notch stuff (what guy a couple posts up was talking about)... they sell it at the sherwin williams automotive locally. just takes patience and proper spraying method.

i forgot my old screen name to this place...

i think im late but tinting tail lights is super fun!

the darker the better, at least that is my opinion. for everyone i have tinted tail lights for i always recommend buying LED replacement bulbs because they are much brighter than the stock bulbs and shine through the tint very well.
