carmax trade in value = omg wtf ouch!
not quite sure if this is the correct place to post this, but if not, mods please move as necessary.
so today i went to visit a carmax dealership here in so. cal and was interested in a wrx they had there. all is fine and well, they appraised my car and they offered me $8500.00 for it. quick background on my car, 2007 tC, manual tranny, 29k miles, s-tech springs, kyowa 206 wheels...it basically looks like this pic of my car below, minus the front lip.
now i understand that mods don't do anything to increase the value, infact the sales lady at carmax told me they couldn't sell my car on there lot because of the aftermarket rims/springs (but their auction company would buy it from them...or something?). my plan is to take the springs off and sell them, but leave the wheels.
now here is my question, do you think i will have better luck at a toyota/scion or subaru dealer on getting more for my trade in than i will at carmax? i know times are tough in the auto industry, but i feel like $8500 is an ___-raping, especially because i saw an 06 tC with 37k miles on their lot (carmax) listed for $15,900. i looked up the blue book value on my tC and it came in as follows:
Condition/Value
Excellent
$12,660
Good
$11,910
Fair
$10,635
do any of you guys have any tips or advice for me to try to get at least the 'fair' value according to kelley blue book?
thanks!

carmax rips you off! I tried to trade in my old car there which was crashed....driveable with no engine problems but still not in a conditioned to be sold on their lot. they offered me $5k for it after haggling up from $4500 and I went to longo and they offered me $6k for it after I added another 7k miles on it from my carmax appraisal with no haggling

DO NOT go to carmax to trade in your ride PERIOD. if u wanna trade it in, go to a toyota dealer or if u're interested in a wrx, go to a subaru dealer. STAY AWAY from carmax when trading in ur car.
bro went to carmax the other day wanting to trade in his 03' IS300(with 100k mile,STICK) they offered him 6500 lol. bluebook listed his car at 13000.. so yea

ouch, dude i've been wanting to go to carmax and see what they would give me for my car but been lazy to remove majority of my mods to make it looks stock and i got an 07/26k miles/auto. but seeing how they are offering you a little bit for it, there is no way i would be able to get rid of mine. this was good to know ahead of time before aptemting it, thanks and sorry to hear that your not getting what you want for it.

Ok hold on to your seats. As your car sits right now. I would give you 10,250. You may get up to 11k for your tC private party, but mileage, accesories added, etc, lost your car value. 27k miles is a lot for an 07. Ave mileage is 14k. Was 12 now 14k.
choose your options, but strip everything off and make as much money back as you can and trade the tC
