IMPORTANT to all car owners!!!! VIN #'s
Mods, sorry i dont know where to post this but this is for everyone. I thought everyone should know.
VIN NUMBER - WARNING!!!
Wow....so simple, I would have NEVER thought about someone doing that!!!!
Here is INFO worth the price of your car.... WHAT WILL the car thieves THINK OF NEXT?
The car thieves peer through the windshield of your car or vehicle, write down the VIN # from the label on the dash, go to the local car dealership and request a duplicate key based on the VIN #.
I didn't believe this e-mail, so I called Chrysler-Dodge and pretended I had lost my keys. They told me to just bring in the VIN #, and they would cut me one on the spot, and I could order the keyless device if I wanted.
The Car Dealer's Parts Department will make a duplicate key from the VIN #, and collect payment from the thief who will return to your car.
He doesn't have to break in, do any damage to the vehicle, or draw attention to himself. All he has to do is walk up to your car, insert the key and off he goes to a local chop shop with your vehicle.
You don't believe it? It's that EASY.
To avoid this from happening to you, simply put some dark tape (electrical tape, duct tape or medical tape) across the VIN Number Metal Label located on the dashboard.
By law, you cannot remove the VIN, but you CAN cover it so it can't be viewed through the windshield by a car thief.
I urge you to forward this to your friends before some other car thief steals another car or truck.
Slip a 3x5 card over my VIN NUMBER.
PASS THIS INFORMATION ON TO ALL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS NOW!!!!!

yup this is true. I received a memo here at work about vehicle losses like this. Also, most dealerships wont ask for proof of ownership. At the same time the laws are bent to a way that we have to expose our vin#'s. Mind if I move this somewhere where everyone can see this and not just Pac South people?

GOTTA LOVE OUR FRIENDS OVER AT GLENDORA TOYOTA/SCION!
Thanks Oliver!
You need more than the VIN to get a duplicate key. Remember that small piece of metal with numbers engraved on it that came with your keys when you bought your Toyota? That's what's called "key code" and that's what you'd need to get a duplicate PLUS we verify identity using IDs, SSNs, Addresses of the REGISTERED owner. We don't do it over tha phone and we DON'T mail keys either for security purposes.
Now, that's Toyota's policy though; I have no idea how other manufacturers handle it.
Hope it helps!
Thanks Oliver!

yea I know I have posted this before but both times I had keys cut I just walked in with the vin written on a sheet of paper and handed it to the parts guy. Wihtout asking a single question he cut me a new key and handed me a bill. I told this to Scion corporate but they did nothing... Oh and you can get a ticket for covering your vin.
