In Need of TLC in Northern Colorado
My 2004 xB is in need of some TLC. I've decided I want to keep it indefinitely. So here are some issues I'm looking for input on:
1) I've dinged up the bottom of the front "bumper" from dragging it on things. Should I go original or aftermarket and "custom" with a whole new front end? Am I likely to find any OEM used? Seems like I'm probably not the only careless driver that way.
2) Constantly had problems with the inside plastic on the front passenger wheel well. In a fit of frustration I just cut a lot of it out. Is it critical enough that I should replace it?
3) The chrome on my wheels is corroded. Could I simply have them powder coated or is it easier/cheaper to replace them?
4) Since the factory deck isn't a standard shape, can you still find aftermarket kits to fit a new one? I'm mainly after an iPod plugin but would like to start upgrading sound while I'm at it.

1) Go with the aftermarket if it doesnt go any lower than what it is. I drive to CO a lot and the roads there make my stock 1" drop scrape like a low rider. Unless your current wheels lift you a little or your on air.
2) I think that it is suppose to help reduce the dirt and grim going into your engine bay???!? Not sure, but I would look into finding another solution since you do get some serious weather over there.
3) Where I live it would cost me $60 a wheel to powder coat it so that would be a better solution plus you can pick your color.
4) I have a Gen1 and I replaced the stereo with a doubled in dvd player touch just had to go to a car audio place to get brackets to fit the aftermarket stereo in there that was around $15-$20.

1) i have an OEM front bumper sitting in my garage, repaint will probly cost you $100-200 at maaco, install takes about an hour at most, and is direct bolt on. aftermarket will run you $200+shipping and you still need it painted and most dont fit...yes MOST. check some local junk yards but when i was looking for xb parts last year most were just engine/interior only
2) stops rocks/dirt etc damaging engine components. not essential but you could run into an issue should a rock fly up your intake
3) same happened to my rims. i need new tires aswell so ill just be replacing the set as tires=$800 rims+tires=$1000. most powder coating places in FC area charge around $80 per rim so $400 if you want to keep your rims but want them paint instead of chrome. DONT waste your money on any of those rubbing compounds, they wont save them.
4) its considered a "double din". while a little more expensive than single din headunits you can easily get a dash kit to fit, almost every double din radio these days has an ipod connector input, cable will run you about $20
oh i live in fort collins too ;) if you have questions let me know
