It's the ram air intake though. Don't forget.

I'm glad you two worked it out, sort of:-) Thanks for the offer STCxB but I still need to figure this whole CAI vs SRI thing out. I've read pages and pages of posts on the subject and just need to decide which way to go. XB Toaster, if you get it installed, please post pictures.

Heririck, I had a full CAI on my old xB1. It had a great sound, and with headers and exhaust a noticeable (slight) increase in throttle response.

While it definitely would have been sucking air that was a little bit cooler from way down in the front fascia (compared to sucking air from the engine bay with a SRI), I had to have a bypass valve installed to prevent hydrolocking... and the filter was so low that it got absolutely filthy very, very quickly.

Just something to think about

Short ram intake is right off the throttle body against the firewall on your next Xb. Sucks hot engine heat not the best idea but still functional. Cold air intake goes down into the fender well where it gets bypassing error while you drive at a lower temperature but like Windows said it gets dirty a lot quicker being close and load to the ground

With a short ram intake, you also have throttle response at lower RPM, and with a CAI you have it at higher RPM, I believe. It may be opposite, but I think that's the relationship. I have seen people get crazy and do combo SRI and CAI with a y-pipe!

I would say an sri is the way to go, yes you will be taking in hot air from the engine but if you run a ram air tube from the lower grill to the filter like I did you'll also be getting cold air form the out side as you drive. As far as what company to go with my weapon-r sri was the first thing I did to my box its been on for around 30K cleaned every 3K I have no complaints with it, it sounds great and made the engine run a lot smoother.

Very good point about the dirt build up. I'm not that thrilled about cleaning air filters somewhere down in the wheel well. From what I've read, STCxB is correct as to where each makes it's horsepower and Scientist also about the heat.

Speaking about horsepower, have we gotten a report on your turbo STCxB? Is it done and running?

Gold Toaster, do you have a pic. of your intake setup that you could post here?

Thanks everyone for the advice!

I'm trying to locate mounting bolts for my intercooler, then I just have minor things to finish up. They're M12x2.5, if anyone knows where I can go pick some up in person. I don't really want to go online for em and pay to ship. But after that, it's basically home free!

They're a good place to file away for projects. The have bins upon bins upon bins of fasteners.

I can totally help you out! I have a leather steering wheel cover that I haven't installed yet. If you can find upholstery suede and thread, you can copy my cover and make your own!

Thanks STCxB! I was trying to find suede that is thick enough last night on line and couldn't find anything less than $85. Do you know what brand of cover you have and how soon were you planning to do the install?

I couldn't get the link to work for that cover I found but I'll happily cut and paste it if anyone is interested.

I can't remember the brand off-hand, but they're custom made for each car and fit like a glove. I tried to do the install with different thread than was provided, but that thread broke and so I haven't tried to reinstall it. I can wait to do the install until you have time to make a suede copy of it. I'm in no rush.
