when shopping for coilovers, is there anything important to know..besides not buying a ____ty brand? i'm looking for a set of Tein Basics, i want the car a little lower.

i.e., do i need to buy anything else besides the CO themselves, or for the other parts do i just use whatever is on the car now?

I spoke to Kevin from toyota and one of his mechs mentioned that air might be in the system shorting it and to bleed the air out of it. Makes sense because it says to do this in the s/c instructions when putting back in the radiator but it isn't too detailed on how to do it. ...help?
Next to where the thermostat is. There is a little valve thing there, that is used to release any air bubbles in the cooling system.

I'll try to see if I can find a picture. I remember reading about it somewhere. I did it when I installed my thermostat and coolant hoses.

I'm pretty sure thats all you need. If you lower it too much you're gonna need a camber kit. I believe for the rear.

Front fares pretty well to being lowered.

1. Yes, the kit was piece together, It is not a kit simply because at the time I built the tc there were no kits, plus I kind of wanted to built my own.
2. In respect to the numbers, I was running 314WHP and I decided to install Rods and pistons but I have not had a chance to tune the car properly. I will on Monday. (be careful with #’s don’t believe everything people tell you)
3. For the fuel I had the chance to go with a Haltec or AEM stand along system but at the last minute we decided to go with the AEM. I went with a full stand along AEM, There were no piggyback system at that time. The AEM works and my mechanic happens to be a dealer for them and one of the best tuners in Florida.
4. I also have an IS300 fuel pump built in the original place of the tc (inside the gas tank) it is simply quiet, just like the stock one. I don’t remember if I have 550 or 750 injectors.
5. Lance from Toyomoto tuned it for me, he no longer has the shop, and all he does now is tune car all over. He tunes most cars from all mayor shops in FL, Jamaica and other places.

Rick

So I was doing some testing today.

I wanted to make sure all the injectors were working. They are =)
Made sure spark plugs are sparking. They are =)

Did some further testing. While the car was off. I disconnected the spark plug wire to cylinder #1. Turned on the engine. Checked out the exhaust, LO AND BEHOLD, waterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Not vapor. WATER. I did it one by one to the other cylinders. No water.

So i'm guessing the gasket is broken around cylinder #1. I just wanted to know more specifically what area the problem was.

I was thinking of getting the valve train swapped. Buttttt my brakes pads and rotors need to be changed. 65k miles ;(

So that takes immediate precedence. I'll just have the cylinder head resurfaced.

Its best to be patient sometimes, right johnny/denny (inside joke).

Coilovers won't be in for at least another month

F**king Unicorns!

I don't know what have you done to your tc but if you are planning on turbo it, there is a head gasket for the tc that is bigger than normal and will lower the compression as well.
You also mention about resurfacing the cylinder head, if you do the head, It will be a great idea to exchange the head bolts for better ones if you are planning to produce more power, the stock bolts are not good. Back went I was boosting in the past with out the new bolts the head will lift out of the block and was letting the coolant in to the cylinder, after installing the new bolts the problem went away.

thanks Sergio

does anyone have recommendations for coilovers? i was leaning towards Tein Basics since they are not too expensive, but i've read they are a pretty rough ride. i do drive a lot for work so i dont mind spending a little more for a smoother ride.

i've taken interest in the H&R coilovers, as well as the Progress CS1

what do you guys think?

hey rick, nice brakes upfront. are you going drilled in the back too or are those staying slotted? looks a little odd that way.
