I marked everything so I know where to put it back.
Lots of marks, because my hands seem to erase the black marker lol.

If for some reason, I have to set the timing. From what i've read I believe I have to set cylinder #1 to TDC. So I might have to manually crank the crankshaft. I haven't read up too much in detail about it yet. As I have the current timing chain cover problem, lol. As soon as I get that over with i'll deal with that hurdle ^^

I can't wait to get the gaskets and bolts in. The cometic gasket looks reallllllly sturdy. The ARP head studs look nice too.

I'll take some pictures of the process and parts. I'm pretty sure the stock head bolts have stretched. I'll measure them, to see how much past the recommended limit it has stretched. The stock gasket is what really worries me. I know its pretty messed up, I guess i'll just be surprised to see it.

Other than that, i'm learning a lot from the process. Long story short, its a PITA like pete mentioned to me a few weeks ago, lmao.

Wish me luck, lol.

yeah, youre gonna have to set the cylinder #1 to tdc, make sure your not on the compression stoke when you set it or it'll throw your timing off. good luck

hmmm... good question. youre going to remove the head right? if so, when you line cylinder 1 up to tdc, its probably gonna throw the marks you put on the crank sproket off. unless you had it set to tdc without looking at it before you started, so i doubt that. just make sure that what ever you adjust the crank to, you adjust the cams to also. Pete, can you confirm this?

generally theres a spec that scion would have to set the timing, but without it, its gonna be a bit more dificult

I wonder if I should just crank cylinder one to TDC right now. So the camshafts can be in the appropriate position. that way I can mark everything properly, and then remove the timing chain.

You also mention about resurfacing the cylinder head, if you do the head, It will be a great idea to exchange the head bolts for better ones if you are planning to produce more power, the stock bolts are not good. Back went I was boosting in the past with out the new bolts the head will lift out of the block and was letting the coolant in to the cylinder, after installing the new bolts the problem went away.

Rick
I spoke to you on wednesday ^^ remember.
I have the turbo tc with the CF hood, and the head gasket problem (stock gasket).

I have arp head studs and a cometic head cylinder gasket (for about 5 weeks) in a box. I was gonna get a copper one, but i'll leave that one for when I do my engine build.

On a side note, here is my current progress.
Right now, I have the valve cover off, alternator off, oil catch can off, oil drained, coolant drained, intake manifold I think I have all the bolts off, exhaust manifold + turbo + downpipe is off, battery off, hood off, front strut off, charge pipe that goes to the throttle body off, ingalls stiffy off, bolt to the front motor mount off (so I can have some free play with the engine), a few bolts off the timing chain cover. Took out the bolts to the camshafts.

I am a little stuck though. I need to relieve the tension on the chain that is holding the camshafts. So I can get to the headbolts, and pull out the cylinder head. I forgot to print out the pages that pete gave me a few weeks ago. Regarding the removal process >.< So thats where i'm at. I gave him a call, but no answer.

Just taking a few minutes to eat and drink.

Anyone have the link that pete gave us?

Thanks a lot bro. Sorry I called you up over the weekend. I guess that would explain why it went straight to voicemail, lol.

Have a good vacation.

I won't have time today to work on my car.
Anyone have any recommendations about removing the timing chain cover, and intake manifold? lol

Its such a PITA. When I get this worked out. First thing i'm doing is a street tune. Then i'm gonna hit up a dyno ASAP to get the areas that are hard to tune on the street. Its about time I do it right, lol.
