ALLIGATOR ALLEY CLOSED Due To Fires

A long stretch of Interstate 75 closed since Wednesday evening because of heavy smoke billowing from a fire in the Big Cypress National Preserve will likely be reopened Thursday, a park spokesman said.

Alligator Alley may reopen Friday morning
The Florida Highway Patrol will decide Friday morning whether to reopen Alligator Alley, the main artery connecting South Florida's east and west coasts, as a wildfire continues to burn in the Big Cypress Natural Preserve, a park spokesman said.
A 55-mile stretch of Alligator Alley/Interstate 75 has been closed in both directions since Wednesday night, when smoke from a 7,600-acre-plus blaze created dangerous conditions for drivers.
The highway is closed between U.S. 27 in Broward County and mile marker 80 in Collier County.
Alternate routes include the Tamiami Trail -- U.S. 41 -- from Miami-Dade County and State Road 80 from Palm Beach County. Tamiami Trail emerges on the Gulf Coast at Naples, and State Road 80 reaches Fort Myers.
Big Cypress spokesman Bob DeGross said the blaze was ignited Tuesday morning by a lightning strike. It began as a smoldering fire and became significant on Wednesday.
Low humidity and cooler temperatures have contributed to the smoky conditions, he said.
As of Thursday night, DeGross said only 30 percent of the fire, which threatens no homes or structures, has been contained.
Hmm thursday, friday, thats cutting it too close, i agree we need a plan B
We'll Call it Operation Back Draft!!!
crap i used google maps... the rerouting doesnt look good... u got 41 and thats pretty much it unless ur scions can sprout airboats from their asses... Check out TSE MIAMI PAGE FOR OTHER REROUTES
