the ones I saw in Miami were sweet. As far as these pics, what I believe is they look boring stock, mod it and it should look 10 times better. Remember when we first saw the xB in a pic like the xB2? it didnt look that good either. Im going to wait and see it in person, test drive one and go from there. But as far as those pics, I cannot stand the side profile of the xB2, its too long...

I think a lot people are missing the point.

The new vehicles are not being designed for current owners. You've already bought one, you're in the family already. The new vehicles are being designed to appeal to people who have different tastes to you. Of course they're going to look different!

The bottom line is that Scion was intended to bring new people into the Toyota family. By markedly changing the body styles every three years, you are maximising the market you are reaching out to.
While I understand and at least partly agree with what you are saying, I have a basic problem with it, too...

The xB2 will be bought by a different group of people - those wanting a "longer, lower, wider, more power" vehicle with more mainstream styling. The tC station wagon people.

Those who enjoyed the very strict "form follows function" cubical "city car" xB Classic don't necessarily want a 10 inches longer, 4-6 inches wider, 3 inches lower, bigger engined curvey and stylish station wagon/van/mom-car.

BUT, while Scion is expanding it's "Introduction to Toyota" market to a new segment, they have made an error, IMHO, in leaving those City Car/UUV people out in the cold: There is NO model in the Scion or Toyota lines in the United States that is at ALL a reasonable step to take when we retire our xB Classics. None.

The City Car or UUV was a bold idea to introduce into the US market, and for a number of reasons it took root and sold MUCH better than anyone at Toyota or Scion ever expected. It fired the imagination by being such an honest and unapologetically "square" car.

Not that they have introduced that idea to the market, they have totally, absolutely and completely abandoned that niche. There is no vehicle in that segment now that they have discontinued the xB Classic. This is a perfect opportunity for another manufacturer to import an established City Car into the US. (There are a number of them in other markets.)

If Scion felt the need to 'expand' their appeal to a new segment, Scion/Toyota needed to look at the new segment they created in this country, and plan for replacements for the xB Classics that WILL over the years need to be retired. Those folks will be looking for a replacement, and there is nothing, absolutely nothing, left in that segment in this country.

I'll be keeping my little urban box until it's wheels fall off, I can only hope that when I need it, there will be a replacement. Right now, there is NOT.

Tom

I think, if this model is alot bigger than the currnet xB, they should continue to offer both. ...No sense in ruining a good thing. I mean...it would be like the Tahoe and Suburban of the Scion Community

I dont know about you there in chilly WI ... but here in the NorthEast .. from the day i drove my RS1 off the lot till today ... i still get people calling my box an Element.

IMO the Element sits higher and actually has MORE of a boxy look over the xB2. But, owning a xB1 i can see the traits of the first in the xB2.

xD

xDe-evolved, Americanized & ungainly.

It will be interesting to see how well it sells, compared to the xA.

I was hoping it would have all the quirkiness of the original xA&B.

No thank you, if I were buying again it would be a mini.

well for me the new xB looks great and all in its own way. the problem i see is that everyone is trying to compare it with the old xB. and if u do that, then u can say that this new xB is a dissapointment. but after looking at it long enough, i can see the new xB's charms. both new and old are good in their own ways. when u look at this car without any old xB perceptions, then u can appreciate it for what its worth.

for my personal opinion though, fitting the 2.4liter in there was a huge upgrade. but i think the sacrifice was that the front end had to be extended. that made it look a lil weird for me but im getting used to it now. its a good lookin car in its own right.

the xD just looks like a great car overall. i didnt see nothing wrong with it. i can't wait for the replacement for the tC!

Well, there's a lot of repeat posters...

Yes. Lots of people were interested. For me, the 2008 xB Rumors forum has been the first place I've checked every time I've logged in.
