2008 Scion xB & xD Photos Leaked One Day Early
#163
I would have bought a first gen xB in a heartbeat. I love those things. And the JDM new xB, too. But, really now. Where did the youth factor go? It looks more like a family van than ever. And the xD, I don't even know what's going on there. It's like an SUV that has a growing disorder.
I'm harsh on these two, yes. My two cents.

Yeah... if they mod the FUSE to a bastardize version of the tC I'm just going to outright drop Scion as any serious branding. The prototype of the FUSE is damn sharp but after seeing these two, well I have very little hope for the tC's replacement

^^^ the problem was the gas prices. the xa and xb models were meant for young peeps... but once prices spiked people noticed that these cars had great mileage and were rather inexpensive. that's why i've seen grannies in xb's and parents in xa's. scion figured that for scions there might not be an age factor anymore - as long as it's inexpensiove and has mileage people will buy them.
like i've said before... the new xb should look a whole lot better with personal mods... after all that's what makes ownin a scion worth having - making it your own. don't like the bumper? replace it. don't like the height? drop it. don't like the body shape? ... ... ... make it a convertible. we flame it now... but as soon as we see more customized models we'll be salivating for them just as much as you do the one you drive now.

Rather than "cutting edge" or "youthful" these two cars look cartoony...
I can't describe it, but they just look like silly, cutesy, cartoony versions of Toyotas. Something a 5 year old might like. Not bold or exciting at all. I thought the Yaris was "cute" but it's got nothing on the xD. And the new xB looks like it's about to morph into some kind of cartoon frog or something.
Rather than "youthful" they look childish, and cute. Typical Toyota, making "everyone-friendly" designs. Bland and boring. This is the best Scion can do? I thought they were moving away from Toyota? And despite the cult following for the Box, they quickly caved under pressure from the haters and made a new car that embodies everything the original xB stood against. Sorry Scion, but you failed.

I think that they probably made the base models bland intentionally... Though I personally think the base model xD looks pretty hot. I think we'll all be surprised when we see what kind of options Scion has in store for us, and how different from the base models they will look when you drive them off the lot...

Just as I thought, those who are in love with the current B were going to hate the new one, and there will always be a cult following for Classic B.
But at the sametime, did yall fall in love with Classic B the first time you saw a photo? or was it the first time you drove it, sat in it, or saw it in person?
Scion isn't trying to sell more, they are actually trying to sell less than they did last year, and want no more than 150k/year unless people end up waiting too long for their Scions, so keep that in mind.
Don't hate, it's just different, and maybe they should have gone up the alphabet in naming it, but they didn't. You know it's going to be a great car, and I'd hope that you Classic B owners will welcome the New B owners at the shows and clubs, afterall, it's still Scion and we should all be one big happy family. We can argure over who is the black sheep amongst ourselves ;-)

I know opinions will be varied (as evident in this thread) and I would definitely like to see more photos (especially interior), but I think I'll pass on the new xB. If anyone shows up at a show with a new one, of course I'll welcome them in and be interested in what they've done to it. Afterall, it IS still a Scion

I'm trying really hard to like it. I just can't. Not yet at least.
I'll be seeing it in person on Saturday so maybe something will strike me. But right now, Scion took away the things that I like about the current xB. I love the center mounted gauge, and I like having an angular car when the rest of the industry is obsessed with curves and aerodynamics. It set's it apart. The new B is not radical enough to stand out.
It has potential, but I'll be sticking with my toaster for a while.
