2010 Scion tC Press Release
#44
this has been expected for a long long time. i'm in favor of keeping the tC around for another year or so. its a profitable car from toyotas standpoint and $ has to come from somewhere to bankroll the new tC =)

Wow
Can't believe it. A little or any upgrade would be good so people will go and feel good buying a 2010 model. If no upgrade, people will mine as well get a used one. Atleast a 2.5 liter 170-180 HP engine would be decent. I would trade my car in right now. And maybe better suspension and better on-road feel in the handling and steering column. God knows we need that.

I, for one ,am glad that they decided to let all the financial bull-ish blow over. It amuses me reading about how people in this forum act like it's such a huge deal. Just keep upgrading what you have, people. They'll come through sooner or later. I am just about to pay off my `05 tC, and could not be happier that my body style is still "current." Why mess up a good thing? If you want a freshly-designed Kia, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to have your tC in trade. Good luck reseling the Kia when the new tC finally comes out.
Having said that, it would have been interesting to see the `10 tC with the same body style, but adding the 2.7L 4-cyl. that's in the Venza, along with a 6MT or 6AT choice. Even that has 182 HP.

No surprise here, if they were replacing it for the 2010 MY, it would have been shown at the NY autoshow and released in June (or around there). What I want to know is, what are they going to replace it with? The tC (indeed the whole Scion line) was originally supposed to be a stepping stone to introduce young(ish) people to the Toyota line, and then keep those customers as they mature and look for bigger/better cars. So something along the lines of:
xA ---> Matrix
xB ---> Venza
tC ---> ??????????
I have no interest in spending 32k on a IS250, or roughly double what I spent on my tC. There are no sporty models, no low-20s sport-coupes (no MINI, no GTI, no SI, etc). C'mon Toyota, bring out that 20k RWD sports coupe there have been rumors of!! If not, I'll probably be looking elsewhere for my next car when my '05 (now 4.5 years old) is finally due for replacement.
As far as sales go, here's the annual sales of the tC:
2004 28,062
2005 74,415
2006 79,125
2007 63,852
2008 40,980
Peaked in '06 and now only 50% of that for '08 when small cars should have been selling well. In fact the MINI brand was up 28% in 2008 thanks to the release of the clubman, and without it they were just about even with 2007... YTD the tC is down over 60% from last year. These are *not* good numbers, and show that the tC isn't making Toyota money. They need to come up with something and quick!

Numbers for March 2009: http://forums.trucktrend.com/70/7560...ers/index.html

I love my 05...and by the end of this month, she'll be at 100,000 miles....by 2011, I'll be ready for something more mature....and faster.
I hope the replacement comes soon. This is annoying.
