Does Scion need saving?
#121
Scion needs a new cult car and I believe they can prduce. It already exists
I don't think they realize how popular this car really can be. This model was totally geared to youger generation like Scion marketed our xB. It is the alter ego in design. Come on Scion! you can do it. you need to do it.
And who said the xB2 and xD look the same!? what planet are you from? Not even close
look at the pontential

OK, here's the deal...
Scion's most successful car (in terms of sales and target demo) was the tC.
The tC had plain-jane styling, nothing boxy, was not functional for carrying surf boards or whatever the "cool kids" need cargo room for, it was the most expensive model in the line-up, AND it came pre-customized with a glass roof and 17" rims.
It truly went against everything Scion "thought" young people wanted. They thought young people wanted cheap, roomy, blank-slate-for-tuning type vehicles. The tC proved them wrong.
Based on that, and the cult-like following of the xB (which is the opposite of a tC) I think Scion is utterly confused about what to do next... The 2nd gen Scion xB is a clear example of that. It literally looks like a tC & xB love child.
I personally think Scion should stop trying to combine what made each car successful (ie. xB2 with a tC engine, or the Hako "sporty" plus "boxy" ??) and offer different cars for different types of young people.
They SHOULD have a slow, ugly, cheap, boxy bB (not xB2)
AND offer a sporty coupe with NORMAL styling (not Hako)
For some reason Scion thinks in order to duplicate the success of the xB1 and tC, they need to mix them together somehow... When that can never be done.

I think that is where the xb2 was a problem big time-it tried to mix 2 things and came out looking like so many other cars (HHR, PT, even more like an Element that the xb1)
That's why when I saw that Lexus I had to imagine it as the next tC and the Hako is great as a concept and doesn't blend anything but obviously is a new copy of an old american hot rod and therefore works only as that style. Not by my talent alone, but I found that the photoshopped one that I messed about with came out (in my opinion) as something still pretty fresh but still available as something realistic, customizable and in my opinion pretty cool.
They need to listen and try but they might be trying too hard IMO.

[quote="greybox"]The new tC? (It's a little photshopped-but you get the idea)
this concept is interesting as I participated in a CAD design thing Megaweb was doing in Tokyo. I'm sure that design is a culmination of all the ideas that went thru that place. I wonder if that is how the Hako came to be.

you look around at some Toyota/Lexus/Scion concepts and there are design elements from this one I did. So what we see is all the common stuff people chose when they also participated in the design study.

Well, Pontiac is re-making the El Camino

If Scion wants to start a new market for mini-trucks they NEED to rename the xP to xT (Microsoft would sue in a heartbeat) and release that puppy,NOW!
Besides i can see a modded "xT" with a "xTc" sticker on it to go along with the modded xB "seXBox" stickers

I see a problem here-should some of these cars come to reality I would jump ship on Scion in an instant

Actually all the Hako p-s I did, I stretched the bed what would be about 6-8 extra inches swo it woule probably end up being about 40 plus-longer than a subaru baja or ford explorer sport thingy
#140
ok i give it to you i did the math and the bed would be bigger then i thought, its 55" from the very tip of the rear bumper to the back glass, and the bed itself would be ~43" long (7 inches longer then i thought) which is pretty good size but still not longer then a ford explorer sport track which has a length of 49.6 inches.
