I'm already getting prepared to not give a crap when I get twice the gas mileage as everyone else.

And yes, just make this a two-seater with space in the back. There's absolutely no way you could fit four people in this thing AND have cargo space. Plus, I don't have enough friends to warrant having a car that comfortably fits four people... that's why I have a tC.

For the U.S., however, a 2010 Toyota iQ would likely use the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gas engine that powers Toyota’s larger Yaris subcompact, if only because the two models have similar-size engine bays.
I started commenting on this with a lot of profanity and the words "no" and "diesel" everywhere, but then I actually went and did some reading on the interweb. Shocking and unprecedented, I know, but follow me here:
They're giving us the NZ engine. Cool, it's not thirsty and it's cheap. BUT that also means they can also go from the FE spec to the FXE spec and give us a hybrid trim iQ rather easily. If my maths are correct, the FE could get around 40mpg, but the FXE could get around 60mpg... which is exactly the same mileage they're saying the ND engine will get over in Europe. I'd still like the ND to come over here, but I'll be satisfied if they give me a 1NZ-FXE that gets comparable gas mileage.

Also, reading a little more on the internet/Wikipedia and doing some number crunching, I would be surprised if this cost over $11k or $12k for us.

Yes, because the ginornmous 'new' xB is selling SOOOO well.
It's selling well in my area. I'd definitely say that the xB2 sold better it's first model year than the xB1 did. This new car sounds like it would make a great second car.

Dont hold your breath. Many cars that are introduced into teh us from the european designed get half the fuel economy and delivery half the performance once they are beefed up to meet to the us standards for crash protection and emissions.

Look at the smart or even prius for that matter.

I actually factored the US-ifying in to my previous post, for gas mileage and price. It's disgusting how bulky US cars have to be just so we all don't kill each other in our metal death rockets.

Although, I still would want one, if the price is good.

It's 3+1 seating.. which means the driver's seat is pushed all the way back, leaving room for a little child in the rear, then a full passenger (co-pilot), and full passenger behind the co-pilot...

3+1.. there is plenty of room....
That sure is a diplomatic way of saying "cramped rear seat, unusable for adults." Somebody in marketing must have thought for _hours_...!

They should do what Porsche and VW did, pull the pseudo seats and replace them with a useful parcel area. Make it an honest 2-seater.

it's nothing new... most old convertible and fastback cars of the sixties were marketed as 3+1's....... so yeah.. nothing new...

Yes, except that "3+1" isn't accurate either. If the rear seat is so cramped that only a child can sit behind the driver, the front passenger has to move the seat up to the point that their knees are hard against the dashboard to make enough room for a rear passenger with legs.

Perhaps they should make it "2+2 double amputees"

The 3+1 and 2+2 thing is for insurance purposes only. Vehicles that are 2+2 were never intended on having people in the back.

...speaking of that cube, is it possible for any car company to NOT make a xB knock off?

Um, what? The Toyota bB is what the Scion xB is based on. Started life in Japan in 2000, and they brought it over as a Scion xB in 2004.

The first Nissan Cube was born in 1998.
