The new supra will not directly compete with the Nissan 350z, it will compete with the new GTO(200, Corvette (already out), Camaro(200, Cobra (already out), and Nissan's Skyline (US model) which will also debut in 2008. We are talking the real skyline (V6 or V8 model, AWD), not the G35 US version.
However, the V6 model Supra will be priced closer to 35-40k fully loaded. Of course preliminary pricing estimates are just that, estimates. The 350z top model is 34-35k MSRP.

The price jump for 100hp is absurd, especially considering it has two extra cylinders. The Corvette, Cobra and Camaro will all have their followings. The Skyline is a damn legend... of course people are going to shell out for it. The Supra was cool back when it cost less, but could still outperform the big boys. Pricing it that high is ridiculous... especially the jump in price from the 6 to the 8.

V6: 31,078.00 220hp
V6TT: 40,508.00 320hp
100hp back in 1998 was worth about 10k more too.
35-45k fully loaded is a GREAT price, matching the pricing for the base v6 back in 1998, not to mention the over 100hp gain from a base v6 you will get in the MK5.
50-60k fully loaded for a model 1.5 times better then the v6tt model in 1998 is well worth the extra 10k.
