I am not trying to be argumentative at all here.. but HP is directly calculated from tq and rpm
I know, but that's my point. Were the RPM's 3480, 3500, or 3520 when the torque was measured? Looking at JUST the torque removes that uncertainity.

And people kidding about .006L displacement (yes you know who you are ), technically its .056L that were missing. Which, in a highly strained engine, could be good for 5 horsepower or so...

It would still matter if you measured tq.. tq is not constant across the powerband any more than HP is. They both form a curve. They state HP most of the time at peak level, which is the optimum portion of the tq and rpm curve. So if you chose tq to rate on only, you would still have the same uncertainty unless you could see the tq curve over the band. Manufacturers rate on HP AND TQ already and state what rpm each was pulled from. The only thing I think would be nicer would be publicly viewable dyno plots.. which they wont release from the factory, or at least HP and TQ numbers at say, three points on the rpm curve. But the real test is to drive the car... most people arent concerned if their car can beat car X by .2 sec in a 1/4 mile. And a good portion of the sports car enthusiasts are not either.. since 1/4 mile times are only a good measure of 1/4 mile performance.. which is pretty impractical. Most people are concerned more with overall performance on the street, driveability, features.. etc.

That is an excellent idea. Most people wouldn't understand what they are though.

^^ yep, and you would have salesmen trying to explain dyno charts to people

Who's that?!? Must be some sarcastic bastard! 5hp from .056 highly strained liters, huh? Impressive. How highly strained is the tC engine? Not trying to start a fight but for a production car I imagine the gain would be a fraction of that. Thanks for the info.

In the article, it seems that Bunkley is writing with a little bit of an American bias (remember, he is writing for the Detroit News). Yes, Toyota's numbers did drop a little bit, but remember, they voluntarilly adapted the new system, recognizing its significance.
