Tanner Foust to drift 2009 Scion tC
We’ve gotten the inside scoop on Tanner Foust’s new ride for 2009, and it will be very different from the Nissan 350Z which he has piloted to back-to-back championships. Tanner will continue to drive for Rockstar, AEM, and Toyo Tires, but Papadakis Racing will be preparing a brand new 2009 Scion tC for Foust. Much like Ken Gushi’s tC, Papadakis Racing will be converting the car to RWD along with performing substantial chassis and drivetrain modifications to prep the car. With Foust’s extensive experience behind the wheel, and the AEM / Papadakis Racing minds behind the chassis prep and fabrication, this car should be competitive in no time!
We’ve been provided with a rendering of the car, and are very excited to see it sideways!

I was like say it aint so Ken Gushi aint driving the tC anymore. Thank gosh. Ken is awesome. But this will help get more good attention for Scion and maybe make the idea of a RWD scion for production more prevelant.

Ok. Here comes my rumor train.
Lets add two and two together.
First there were speculations that toyota wants to revive ae86 and will make a rwd celica. In my opinion that could only be possible in Japan. Its not Toyota USA's market.
Scion on the other hand seems a perfectly suited for that.
Now there is a 2nd TC being converted to RWD.
Think about how much persuading has to go into convincing a drift team to do that. Scion has to have a huge interest in advertising in drift world.
Why would you do that if you dont offer a RWD car for the fans. Seems to be like a badly placed promotional investment.
Then there is the collaboration between toyota and subaru for a RWD car.
Somehow it all fits together now. Doesn't it.
My guess. LA auto show will reveal 2010 RWD TC.
I also guessing that Scion will introduce forth model as similar to Fuse as XB2 is to tB.

I doubt it but I'd love to be proven wrong!
I believe this is just advertisement for the car the same way NASCAR advertises "cars" by using shells that sorta look like production cars. It's just Scion isn't targeting the NASCAR crowd but the drift crowd instead.
But srsly, I'd love a RWD Scion.... so long as it's lightweight. The tC is as pudgy a car as I'll ever want for a compact.

omg. there goes Foust's drifting career. Gushi's tC has nothing but problems this season. Foust is going from a twin-turbo 3.5 V6 to a single turbo 2.0 (if its a 3gte like Gushi's) I4. even if there are no technical problems, he's gonna get eaten up by the guys running V8's and V10 (Hubinette's Viper). I dont think any professional drifter outside Japan is skilled enough to take a 4 cylinder to the top of a championship points series (maybe except for Rhys Millen).
