tC Named One of the Worst Poser Cars ... by Jalopnik Readers

IMO
I bought my tc in 08' when fuel prices jumped. I liked it more than any other option in the price range. Decided that I better like it because I wasn't going to break it! (Toyota)...found the car to be a nice DD. I had a track weekend coming up and my other car was not ready, so I took the tc with low expectations. I had a good time with the stock car...but it had some issues. I looked into sway bars, end links, tq dampners, springs etc. I was pleased that scion had such a following, and market for mods. I decided what the heck, so I started with suspension. Took it back to the track and shaved a good size chunk of lap time. More importantly it was a blast! Corner speeds were comp to many "sport" cars if not better... Yeah FWD is way different than RWD an AWD, but man FWD can be blast on a track! Had many guys ask if had a turbo or SC. Ok, going on an on... Poser? Yeah for those who bring it to the track thinking it should run with the other "sport" cars. But your not a poser when you humbly take it to track and have a blast. IMO the tc's must have suspension, CAI, exhaust -back cat delete, pulleys, torque dampner, and a PnP harness. Without humility you might be a POSER!

a Poser car? I honestly don't believe half those cars belong on that list..If we want poser cars lets go with the main culprits, Chevy Cavi *I drive one I'm a poser of a ricer* Neons, Sunfires, S-10's...
The tC is not a poser car..its barley a tuner car...The tC is a entry level no haggel sporty looking car..no more no less..
Sure its a gateway to Toyota! Their not the first company to do that.
Bad list...

This Thread is full of EPIC FAIL! Down right pathetic that you have Scion owners putting down their own car. Tell you what, do us all a favor and sell it and go buy something else. The mis-information, mis-conceptions is what I live for with my tC. It's what actually makes me go faster and harder in my tC. I love every minute of it. My tC was boosted and I did 90% of my racing on the streets against Evo's, STI's, 350z's...etc and beaten them all (I even owned a 350z myself and raced my own 350z against my boosted tC and put bus lengths on it), then I sold the turbo setup and still putting money away to get my new turbo setup. However, I race my tC using stock HP and do a lot more than what even Scion owners in this thread think is impossible.
Someone said you can't hang with an SI....BHAHAHA, I find that hilarious. Or thinking the SI is leaps and bounds over a tC is just as comical.
What can I do with stock HP? Lets see...

Since we can't even come close to an SI, then I shouldn't be passing S2k's at the race track either should I? How about a brand new 2010/2011 Mustang GT (didn't pay much attention to it to get the exact year cause there is a big difference between the 10 and the 11, either way more HP than my little stock motor tC is pushing currently)?

What makes me smile every time is people in technically "faster" cars making me pop my hood because they don't believe me when I tell them it's stock! Stock Header, Stock Air Box and a Full 2.5 exhaust round out the current power mods. I've went from stock 140-150whp to over 300whp back down to 140-150whp and my new turbo setup will be in the neighborhood of 350whp.
The tC is what YOU make of it, not what some POSER writing an article or even the POSERS in your own community think of it. I have built the type of tC that will turn a Hater into an Appreciator, as anytime anyone who has come across it, have been people who thought they were simply just going to walk all over me, only to find themselves in deep thought wondering why or how they are starring at my tail lights. And they usually have second thoughts about it after they raced against me, or with me.
PS....Yes my tC is A Daily Driver. Drive it whenever and where ever. My fiance even drives it to work on occasions.

And Just FYI....someone said that the Drift tC's share Nothing with the showroom tC besides a shell. You need to learn to keep up with current Motorsports before making comments.
Tanner Foust V8 tC is definitely furthest from anything we buy from the dealer for sure. However...Ken Gushi's tC IS a tC in my book. Why? Because they no longer are running the BEAMS motor in it. They ran the BEAMS motor for the first parts of it's debut (like 2 seasons or so). It was making a little over 400whp but very unreliable. They have switched BACK to the factory engine...yes, same engine we all run and been running it all season. It's trans-versed so it will be in line to power the rear wheels (which by the way if I recall, they use the components that were removed from the tC to begin with since the chassis of the tC is an AWD chassis. They just re-installed the original components, or the components that are normally there). Their tC now makes 600whp. I spoke to Gushi and joked with him saying that he scored cool points with the Scion enthusiast when they went back to the factory motor. He said that they were originally going to use it, but didn't.
And need I even mention the 900whp World Racing Scion tC or even their current AWD 1000whp tC? How about PTuning's 600whp tC. Jackson Dawson race team running in the World Challenge series and other teams out there racking up wins. POSER cars...all of them for sure...even with owning the FWD Track record at 10 tracks across the US.

Three weeks ago when I first purchased my tC, i was having second thoughts since I was way too used to driving hondas besides my 98 4Runner. Drove hondas for just over 14 years. But now that I've been researching and learning more about the car the more I appreciate and love it. I actually understand some of the frustration towards the honda guys. But that makes me love my car even more. Rhythmnsmoke (Travis) really inspired me to even consider venturing back into racing. Legal racing this time, and not drag. I've always been intrigued by circuit racing. I was just used to the streets or the quarter mile. Thank you Travis for making me a believer and proud of my purchase (investment).

Man, I'm literally biting my tongue right now at some of the dumb comments in this thread. People get on here and think they know what they are talking about, all the while having absolutely NO clue about what they speak of. They want to have their cake and eat it too. To many Ricers and Cry babies in this thread spending their money on "wannabe" mods and then get upset why their tC is still slow. Go sell your car for a G35, Mazda Speed 3, Civic SI, or whatever other car you think is far superior than the tC is. Just hope you never run into a tC owner who actually modded their tC correctly and blow your doors off.
I run into a lot of Ricers commenting on Youtube as well. The most interesting thing I get is...."Well if you turbo the G35 then it will blow your doors off, or if you turbo the 350z too then it's going to destroy your tC". They think this way when they know nothing about cars and if you think that way also....Then you are a Ricer too.

Anytime man. I myself never imagined my tC would turn into what it is today. I didn't buy it for this purpose in the beginning. Then again in the beginning (5 years ago), there wasn't anyone turning out beastly tC's. NOW though, if I was just a starter to the game, I would DEFINITELY look at the tC as a contender in the Sport Compact world. It has multiple track records and championships under it's belt, so it's a viable platform for sure.
This is the type of stuff I get inspired by:
Poser car = tC
Non-Poser Car = R35 GTR pushing 600-700whp
R35 should walk all over a FWD tC right? This is REAL racing. In the Aftermarket world and in REAL racing, you are either faster than the other guy or you are not. Starting with a capable platform is one thing, but to build your ride into something that is faster than those capable platforms from the factory is another thing. Buying Neon Lights and 60lbs stereo systems is not going to get the job done, so stop complaining about losing to an SI at a stop light when you have 2 12inch subs in the trunk of an already heavy sport compact car.

My conversation with Gushi you just quoted....
"I spoke to Gushi and joked with him saying that he scored cool points with the Scion enthusiast when they went back to the factory motor. He said that they were originally going to use it, but didn't."
I had that conversation during the Scion Exposed event when he was over by the drag strip about to make a run.
