tC Named One of the Worst Poser Cars ... by Jalopnik Readers
#101
I'm with you... but the trouble is (and the reason it shows up on this list) is because no everyone is doing the same thing. They buy it thinking it's a super car or something... or have outrageously high expectations of it. So they end up driving around trying to red-light-race everything on the streets.
Sadly those actions then filter down to the rest of the tC drivers and it makes us all look like douchebags... to a degree.

Just as a Heads up and FYI concerning the Drift tC's, the Rockstar Scion (Tanner Foust tC) will not be running the V8 next season. No word on what they will be running for 2011 yet, but Tanner (via Scion Racing video), mentioned that they will be changing things up.

Tanner might be joining Gushi. Found this post over on ClubsciontC.

i was really starstruck ... lol... and oh yeah... i highly recommend to watch top gear america once it airs... its actually pretty awesome..

Nope, no poser-mangitis here.
Sorry, just realized that this should've been at the end of page 5. Only had hour and a half sleep for over 28 hours. that's what working 12 hour grave yard shifts will do to your body.

dont forget
I had raced alot of hondas when I was younger. I gave alot of that stuff up when I had kids.
So I had been driving the family car and the work truck for some time. I wanted to have a little weekend fun, something to relive the spark.
So in looking for such I choose a scion tc. hondas come stock slow...even with a gsr block its still gonna be needing help. go put some headers and a air intake and some quality gas and go race a s2000 and see what happens.
TC right off the lot has the 15 qtr mile time. I know this is a great start...a building platform. I don't have to motor swap, I don't have to install 4 wheel disc brakes. I know its gonna have a great service life and warranty, can have a little fun and put it away. I have a choice to work on it if I want.
all in all its great, add a turbo charger and this thing rips, if you dont want to do that and have money then go buy a subaru. everything is already done for you.
nothing about this car is a poser, unless it was a hyundai.

I couldn't have said it any better. He pretty much summed me up right there. Except I had one kid and I actually was looking at the Hyundai Genesis originally. Although it's packaged nice and everything I just don't know if Hyundai can be compared to Honda and Toyota as far as reliability. I love my tC and have no regrets. Although I wish my 2009 tC was less sensitive to simple bolt ons.

Hey, just be glad you guys dont drive an xB. Those loser cars are really slow.
Anyway, Just my $.02. I like the tC. The people I've met have no delusions as to what the car is. Its the people that see it and "race" it that give the bad name. The ones I've seen are mostly stock that always try to do the racing. Ive yet to see one nicely modded one try to race me in Georgia. By the way, I drive both an 05 xB and an '83 RX-7 (FB33).
My sister in law has one, she loves it. Because its a reliable, sporty looking coupe. Plus the insurance doesnt kill her, nor does the gas pump. She didnt buy it because its a race car. Hell, I didnt buy the xB because it was fast, its fun to drive and it ____es people off.

Damn, I thought tC insurance was high! Nearly double my xA...
But yeah, you can have boatloads of fun with an xB and even make it SLIGHTY quick, but it was never meant to be or marketed as a fast car. I personally love the gen1.

if you plan on autocrossing or something, I would forego the turbo. you'll just create another problem. I personally like NA but would like to mess with a Gencoupe. has good performance potential and i haven't anything bad about them around here from those that have modifed theirs

The Gencoupe looks good, that's about where it begins and ends though. Poor performance for a 2.0L Turbo. I use to want one until I started looking more into how they were performing and was not impressed. Car is way overweight.

There is no sport car readily available for what the tc is priced. if you spend a few g's more you will get a s2000 minus a backseat and a qtr mile time of 14.4 insurance will kill you on sex, age and record and where you live.
so with that out of the way, most boys some girls buy a car that is appealing and then proceed to modify for the extra horsey. most will never go past the air intake and headers. nike and mother teresa stickers dont count as hp gains.
more moderate speedy driven characters will purchase the evo and sti. take out their parents wallet and its slimmer.
the real enthusiast will buy a cheapy spend the wrench time and built it. crappy old and ugly crx and a k20 motor.
point is no matter what you drive, stock hp can be upgraded. tc owners stick by what you drive....you spent a chunk of change....smile
if you drive a xb 1st gen then you bought it on looks that appealed to you. My friend has one and its slow. so he turbooooooooed it
p.s all the subis and evo lovers out there, I love turbos too, just wanted to feel my steering wheel crank to the sides when I accelerate on my wrench time and my own dime. and if you still hate me....go to your own forum.

sorry was bored on a monday but posing to me would be taking a car that isnt readily available in rwd, join a drifting competition, adding a supra motor and making it appeal to the tc. I love you toyota but that wasnt good. brining back a supra, now I am looking.

Not kissing a$$ or anything but every time RhythmnSmoke talks about our cars potential compared to other vehicles, it puts my concerns to rest about our tC's. I do take pride in my tC, the only thing that scares me is that this is the first and only car that I've owned that's so sensor needy and touchy.
